Mind reading
It was a fun easy book and it would be good to see what happens next. I liked the characters

SOOO good! Paints a picture in your mind that makes the book flow so good, nothing bad to say (which says a lot coming from me). Kept my attention the entire time. I read this in a day, couldn't put it down!
3 Stars
I originally planned to give this book two stars because it started to annoy half way through. The beginning was great and it drew in but after that it went downhill pretty fast. The characters annoyed so much, I dislike the romance and the actions in this were so boring. The ending was the only thing that made me gave it 3 stars.
Cameron can read minds her whole life. She thinks she is a freak and her grandmother strongly advises her not to use her abilities for the "greater good". It is dangerous, says her grandmother. But naturally she's torn between the guilt and the fear for her safety. Soon a girl is killed and Cam hears the thoughts of the killer but can't identify him because there are too much people around her and there is also a possibility that he is a serial killer too..
Based on this above, someone could get the idea that this book seemed like action packed story full of danger and mystery. Frankly, it is not and I will tell you why. Firstly, this is only the beginning of the book. The other part is not eventful and most importantly it's not a mystery. There's no depth in the descriptions. It's all very plain.
The characters:
Cameron "Cam" : I don't know what to tell you about this girl. I don't want to sound harsh but she seemed quite stupid. Not in the way I-don't-like-her-so-she-is-stupid, more like she's makes stupid decision. An example from the book, she is in a house and this one guy says alarmingly "They're coming!" and please take note that there is only one enemy in this book and she asks "Who is coming?". She also cries a lot and thinks about crying. She also constantly changes her mind. One minute she is like "Don't touch me, I hate you, you lied to me!" and in the next "I love him, I hope he'll change his mind and hold me." The worst part for me was when she said (I can't quote it but you'll get what I tried to say): "Maybe, if I started blabbering like a baby,he'll feel guilty and let me go." That was too pathetic for me, sorry. Also, she is confused most of the time and in conflict with her emotions.
Lewis: He should get an award for the First Male character in a book that I hated. He is dark haired and blue eyed but he has been brainwashed and he is now pretty useless. He claims he loves Cameron but never shows it when he NEEDS to. When she's pain he looks away. Cameron tries to talk reason into him but NO he remains stubborn. He may have changed in the ending but the damage is done and I can't stand him. Cameron also describes him as gorgeous at least three times.
Actually, the only character that I like appears at the end and he seems awesome.
The romance: Do you know what a great romance for me is? When you read about the flirting between two characters and their interaction and you feel a flutter in your stomach because it's so well described. Well, there was none of it in this book. I felt nothing, nada, nichts. I wanted it to be over. It was good in the beginning but after that not so much. I actually think that there'll be a love triangle and I'm rooting for the other guy.
Pretty good. Definitely some issues, but good enough that I want to read the next one.
Besides being free on my Nook, I really enjoyed this book. It kept my attention and kept me wanting more. It's not predictable and leaves you hanging at the end. Can't wait to read the second book.
First in a series.
Cameron is a mind reader. She thinks she is a freak since no one else seems to be able to do this. Then a boy named Lewis shows up at school. Apparently he has the power, too - but he can control it. He offers to take her to a place where there are others like them and she can learn how to truly use her strong abilities. Once she gets there, though, she realized that if something seems to be too good to be true, it probably is.
A bit predictable and Cameron is totally wishy-washy, but you tend to like her anyway. A fun read.

The concept kept me reading even when the writing made me want to quit. Aside from the grammatical errors (on a rampart’ instead of a rampage and ‘other’s’ instead of others), the writing was plodding and the characters flat. The frequent mentions of Lewis’ abs and and eyes could have come straight from the Mills and Boon school of writing. The one character I had any connection with, Caroline, was left as a dangling thread.
Can someone give this book to a good editor who will sharpen up the writing and remove the errors because it is a great concept which, despite the flaws, is making me contemplate book 2.

"The Mind Readers" held me tightly from the moment I started reading the first lines. The protagonist, a girl named Cameron, can read minds, an ability that labels her as a freak in her own mind. She is thrilled-terrified when she meets another one of these mind readers outside of her own family. Lewis introduces her to the world that her grandmother tried so desperately to keep from her, and falls quickly into it, in a way similar to how "The Mind Readers" kept me interested from start to finish.
Although this has a touch of romance, it is not the focus of the novel. The author presents multiple realities as the truth throughout the novel, many of which clash as Cameron's own view shifts. Like Cameron, the reader has to struggle with what to believe as truth and what is right and wrong. The author did a wonderful job capturing the individual voices of the characters, their realness making you love and hate them in turn. Cameron's own emotions throughout the novel were very precise and realistic.
A paranormal, light coming-of-age / coming into your own power novel, "The Mind Readers" is a well written and incredibly exciting read. Unlike many of the new-ish young adult series I've read lately where the first book has had me rolling my eyes in disgust (and subsequently avoiding the next), I will read the next books in the series and very much look forward to it.

Ok, let me start this review by being honest. I have honestly had a huge thing for mind readers ever since Twilight...there I admitted it! That being said, this book was absolutely nothing like Twilight, so if the mind reader comment about Twilight has put any big non-Twilight fans off from reading this book, just ignore that I said it because you'll be missing out on an amazing story.
I loved this story. It was unique, and had me completely enthralled. Right from the beginning, and the title too, you know that people in this story can read minds. I loved the beginning of this book, it was a fantastic way to introduce Cam's ability, and also to introduce Cam's character. We learn about her relationship with her grandma and very shortly after that, we learn about her friendships.
The main character, Cameron or Cam, was easy to relate too, even though she can read minds and I most definitely can not. I think that teenage girls especially will be able to relate to Cam, she spends most of her time trying to fit in, despite the fact that she can't actually stand most of her friends. She also struggles to uncover what the truth is rather than just accepting what people tell her. She shows incredible strength, and I admired her as a character. I think she's one of the strongest heroines that I've read in a long time, and Lori did a fantastic job developing her character.
I don't like to put spoilers in my reviews because I want you to read it and experience it for yourself, so I'm gonna try to not spoil anything...but if I do, I'm sorry. The action in this book was intense and incredible...and you even get a taste of romance, although it's fairly bittersweet. This book had my heart a fluttering for Lewis, Cam's love interest, and it had me on toes the entire time. I was constantly trying to guess what would happen next, and by the end Iwas stunned. This book was awesome, I thought it was a wonderful paranormal story, and at times it reminded me of The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting because Cam and Violet are both struggling to keep their abilities secret, but are also desperate to help others in any way they can. The Mind Readers was an emotional, mental ride, and it left my mind blown away. I'm hoping for a sequel personally. Fingers crossed that there is more to come.
*I was given a copy of the ebook by the author, Lori Brighton. I was not required to write a positive review and all opinions are my own.
