4 stars, lost a point for multiple continuity errors.

I have read all the books written by the Hendricks/Pekkanen duo and I have to say, they are hit or miss. I’m happy to report that I enjoyed The Golden Couple much more than I enjoyed their last book [b:You Are Not Alone|45046742|You Are Not Alone|Greer Hendricks|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1582724709l/45046742._SY75_.jpg|69749652].

The plot unfolds through the telling of two narrators: Marissa, one half of the “Golden Couple” named in the title, and Avery, their counselor – who up until a few months ago, was a licensed therapist but has since has her licensed revoked due to some questionable methods.

The story develops slowly. The 40% of the book reads more as domestic fiction rather than domestic or psychological suspense, which is what I was expecting. Things pick up around the halfway point and there are some fun twists and turns. By the end, I had no idea whom to trust or what happened over twenty years ago. I found myself mostly satisfied by the ending but could have done without the last chapter as I’m not sure what it added to the story. The storyline with Avery and the pharmaceutical company felt convoluted and made things overly complicated.

If I could give this book 10 starts I would. The authors totally catered to my love for hard to solve thrillers in this crazy gem. I loved the alternating chapters and the constant thoughts pouring out of my mind:

“Oh wow, yeah this character is definitely suspect!”

“Oh, wait, this dude seems like a total lunatic. He definitely is suspicious!!”

Seriously! Just pick this book up. If you love thrillers, I highly doubt you’ll be disappointed.

Read on a recommendation for 2023 challenge. Fun to read. I finished the book and still didn't understand why the perspectives switched between first and third person. The mystery was enjoyable and I didn't expect the ending. I enjoyed that it was set in DC so I could image some of the scenes.

it was fine. Average thriller. Could have used a bit more thrill…. I hated Avery and Marissa both. Idk. I’ve read better thrillers.

Entertaining enough, but there are dozens of books I would recommend before this one.

(No offense meant; infinitely better than anything I could write!)

Good twisty dramatic thriller with some jaw-dropping moments. Excellent audiobook.

I think this was my least favorite from this author.

Lots of twists and turns. Ultimately could not figure it out until the last few chapters. It does seem a bit outlandish how it all comes together. Throughout the whole book I assumed exactly wha the authors want you to assume and the main storyline was great. The additional storyline around the drug company was a bit much / almost unnecessary.

Wow… this book had me intrigued the second I opened it! And it surely did not disappoint. This read took me out of my reading slump. I actually thought I knew all the secrets the characters had in this book and I even thought I knew how the book was going to end but I was so wrong. This is a thriller that makes you question everyone’s actions and the motives behind it. This read contains lies, infidelity, and last but not least murder. I definitely recommend this book if you're looking for a book you don’t want to put down!
