Almost really liked it but kind of went a bit sideways for me. Alice is like an adult when she’s a child and a child when she’s an adult. I had to remind myself she’s supposed to be in her late twenties. I don’t really understand why June couldn’t tell her about the past, seems to me a vital part of getting Alice to understand the importance of the farm and her heritage. It’s a bit weird for everyone to fall in love with a man they meet at the river in a secluded area. Pretty sure it’s the first boy/man they meet too. June’s story is particularly hard to wrap the mind around. Disappointed the fire isn’t cleared up. Still going to watch the movie. The trailer is what made me want to read it, never heard of it before that.

Edit it to add: so far the show (not movie btw) so far mad about unnecessary changes. Especially since it is a series, they had more time to tell it.

This book sat on my shelves for ages, and I wish I had picked it up sooner! Alice’s story was heartbreaking but beautiful, from watching her mother suffer at the hands of her father only to grow into a strong young woman who had to fight her own similar battles.

The floral references are heavy throughout, but I enjoyed how the author used them to describe different emotions, thoughts and events. A clever piece of writing that emphasises the importance of loving oneself first and foremost.

A strong start but didn’t maintain it

I found this book captivating and hated finishing it. Using flowers to pull the themes of the story together was brilliant and provides a magical feel. There are some very dark aspects to The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart. The more we shine a light on domestic violence, the more voice we give to the victims. A powerful story.

this story was so compelling, the settings were so well rounded and i fell in love with the characters. didnt rate it higher just because i didnt resonate that much with the writing stye for whatever reason, but it felt like a me issue lmao. in every other way, i loved this book!!

This was beautiful, heartbreaking, empowering, funny, sad, and incredibly interesting—just all the feels.

Honestly, I can’t even remember why I picked up this book, but I’m so glad I did.

The story of Alice Hart is written so heartbreakingly beautifully that you can’t anticipate what will happen to her. From the age of six to twenty-nine, you follow a scared little girl as she grows into a woman, enduring twists, turns, and events no one should ever have to live through.

The book also weaves Australian culture in so seamlessly, and I especially appreciated the author’s note on how she wanted to honor the Indigenous people of Australia—it was so thoughtfully done. The knowledge, names, and meanings of flowers initially seem like a lovely side element, but you soon realize how deeply they’re tied to each chapter and how significant they are by the end.

An absolutely beautiful book that I’m so happy to have read. I’m now definitely planning to watch the series and hope it does the story justice.
