This is what people do. They get close and try to stay there. They stay. They keep trying to hold on to each other, even though it’s not really possible, I don’t think. Because people are always moving, aren’t they. But this is what they do. They keep trying.

Six months after starting this book, it took me less than two hours to finish it on a whim, and what a disappointment.

What I liked:
- Agatha's goats storyline and her relationship with Niamh (it happened completely out of the blue but well, I liked Niamh)
- Simon's ambiguous feelings towards his wings and tail, as well as the appointment at the clinic (very well-written and serious and nerve-wracking to read)
- Shepard's entire arc with the demon, even though it was resolved way too quickly to be properly satisfying
"Penelope...” He bites his lip again. “There’s more.”
“More? Your secondborn?”
“No, I’ve got dibs on that one...” He’s grimacing. “But I did lose my last name.”
Every time he talks, my jaw drops lower and my eyebrows climb higher. “How on earth did you lose your last name?”
“Told it to the wrong fairy."

What I disliked:
- Simon felt very out of character at times, as opposed to the way he behaved in the two previous books
- Baz and Simon's relationship, I remember Carry On being pretty good and then it all went pear shaped in Wayward Son
I thought we had the sort of love that you can’t set down or walk away from. An undying fire. The love you hear about in the old stories.

- the pointlessness of this book and the fact that nothing that happened in Wayward Son was ever mentioned: not the trauma, not the vampire gangs, not Agatha being kidnapped... isn't she supposed to be Simon and Penny's best friend?!
- also, there was no proper plot, whatever happened in the second half of the book wasn't very interesting and the ending was terribly lame. both the Smith thing and the Salisbury thing! I'll admit that the Excalibur plot twist was very good, but it could have happened very differently to be satisfying...
- urgh the s m u t

Anyway, that's it. I'm glad I'm finally done with this series and these characters (I've seriously been wondering whether I wasn't more drawn to the book covers than to the proper story?).
How can i convince him that we’re a good thing if he doesn’t believe in good things?

this book definitely my expectations and i loved the character development that we got because it was much needed. i honestly was into it the whole time and found it hard to put it down. BUTTTTTT the plot was messy. with the way wayward son ended i was expecting them to pick back up on that and try and fix the problem that was huge in wayward son. it was talked about like once and was just smoothed over; it felt like it wasn’t even important even though it seemed pretty important. the plot though did allow simon to have closure with his situation and with the world of mages which was something that needed to happen…also niamh and agatha‼️‼️‼️was it perfect??? nope nope nope. did i get annoyed often??? yes. but still i loved it…

(i'm copying this from goodreads and i don't care if the formatting is broken!)

i don't think you understand just how serious this actually is. i haven't devoured a book (or book SERIES, for that matter) like this since ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

anyway (for the last time :/) this is your spoiler warning or whatever and I SWEAR you do NOT want spoilers for this!

(also sorry this one was more capital g GRAPHIC than the other ones in the bedroom. and we WILL be discussing that! so tune out if you're a prude i suppose. i sure felt like one at times reading this but clearly that only drew me in!)

not to be all QUIRKY or whatever but we're adding images this time because this book in particular literally had me like this

<img src="https://i.imgur.com/YmBMgKn.jpeg" />

as i told sarah..... miss rainbow rowell was RAINBOW FOWL for this one. it's the way she had simon and baz break up and then get right back together like 20 pages later and YET my little gay heart ate that up despite how utterly predictable it was. i will admit that we became dangerously close to TJ Klune levels of mawkishness (yes i'm using power thesaurus for these reviews now!) at points but it worked because i've followed these characters for three books now and after the nothing burger (understandably so imo) of their relationship in the last novel it was okay that we FINALLY got a solid book's worth of saz? bimon? content and i'm here for it. (what i am NOT here for is the egregious use of the word "growl," and calling each other babe. IVE HAD JUST ABOUT ENOUGH OF THAT)

speaking of things I COULD predict though, i saw the other two romances from MILES away. i would say that agatha's was the most underdeveloped, but i can allow it because lesbians (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpLH4ogcy1E">even if it did feel a tad bit like heartstopper at that point</a>). what DOES make me unhappy is that the love scene between penny and shephard was so much more descriptive than when simon and baz supposedly did the deed, which i found homophobic (no seriously, i got to a part when baz was covered in a... particular substance and i had to go back and re-read that section two times because it was the most mellow way to describe that imo. meanwhile, the second penny kisses shephard it's like OK FULL STEAM AHEAD I SUPPOSE)

i also wish the epilogue was a little longer. i was convinced that i had a "broken" ebook or something (i DID get this one from the library!) because it was so short and honestly i could've just done without it. it felt like an afterthought but if there's one thing about agatha it's that she's an afterthought

anyway i highly highly enjoyed this and i'm now going to go mourn the fact that it is over, all while also trying to convert everyone and their mother into a carry on fan.

in case it's not obvious i've become increasingly unhinged with every one of these stupid novels. i'm not even going to proofread this one because i want it to stand as a testament of what happens when you start consuming these things

Absolutely loved it! Without a doubt better than the second book. There was a love interest that seemed a little weird to me and uncharacteristic to be honest, but everything in the whole book was beautiful.

I couldn’t decide if I wanted to speed through the book because it was so good, or slow down because I knew it would be the last and I didn’t want it to be over.

Will definitely be reading again very soon.

Its always hard to read the last book of a trilogy that you thoroughly enjoyed. I did find the plot a little underwhelming and the main conflict wrapped up too quickly for my taste BUT I absolutely love these characters and this world. I had such a fun time reading this and I am literally begging for a fourth book. Thats really all I need to be happy

I reread this series again, just to feel joy. Once again I'm begging for even more to this series.
