4.5 stars.
I really like how each of the books in this series is focused on a different character. Leila was also my favorite character since the first one so I really enjoyed this book :)

This one introduced the concept of an overarching mystery more than the first one did and I'm grateful for that. I'm interested to see where it's headed and how all the characters, past and present, are going to come together. So far we've seen some tangled dynamics like how
Sandra is Leila's birth mother
, and there are probably more similar surprises to come.

On a final note I kind of want the physical copies of these books because the art is so. cute. The covers especially, but even the in-text stuff. I need, like, graphic novel adaptations of the series with the same artwork!!

*4.5

I was disappointed with Christina Hendricks' narration. I get that Harris wanted a female narrator because this book is from a girl's point of view, but I just don't think she had the right rythym to match Harris's writing. I also think I just wasn't that into the story. I gave the first book 5 stars, and will read the next book when it comes out. I think I just wanted something different.

Read with Quinn . She gives it 4.5 ⭐️

This is the second "Magic Misfits." I love these sweet stories about kids who love magic. In this story Leila has to decide what family really means. She is a great character and I loved the addition of a new voice for the audiobook. Christina Hendricks was a great reader with wonderful voices for all the characters. The magic lessons are still a wonderful addition. The narrator continues to address the reader in the book, but not so much to deter from the story. I am excited for the next book.

This was so cute! It teaches readers how to do magic tricks throughout the book. It does a good job of inclusion in a variety of different ways. There’s a gay couple who adopts a Hispanic girl, a redhead girl in a wheelchair, a black boy who plays violin, a pair of mischievous twins, and a little blonde boy. There’s a nice emphasis on Morse code (with the code at the back so you can decipher it), an even mix of boys and girls as the main characters, and more! It’s just a great little book.

Delightful book....kept both my 10 year old son and I engaged.

Read- July 2019 for the Book Junkie Trials (The Forgotten Forests)
- Neil Patrick Harris is truly an amazing story teller. I didn't love this as much as book 1 but it was still really good.

Why does Neil Patrick Harris have to hit me in the feels?! This is really such a wonderfully diverse and magical series and I would highly recommend it for anyone wanting same sex parents and/or adopted family dynamic. The characters are so freaking fun and the magic lessons are such a fun idea
