The Magic Misfits is back with a new adventure! Leila and her friends have been going about their usual routine for around six months now. Practice magic learn new magic, all that fun stuff. But one day, a famous psychic comes into town and flips Leila’s world upside down. Every one of her friends is suspicious of the psychic Sandra Santos, but Leila refuses to doubt this brilliant woman. But who should she trust, her beliefs or her friends? Not to mention, the frown clowns are still on the loose…
This sequel will definitely keep readers intrigued in The Magic Misfits stories. There is a lot of expansion on character development (mostly for Leila), and there are a lot more secrets and pasts revealed in this book. While this book is still for younger readers (elementary to middle school), it was a little more advanced than the first book. It also shows more reactions of characters dealing with stressful situations and having friends to remind them that everything will be okay and that they’re there for each other. All of the misfits are great role models on what good friends do for each other, and that sends a powerful message.

This was an exciting adventure following Carter along his way to find his place in the world. There was no lack of twists, turns, and fun adventures along this story. I would give this as a gift to any kid who needed a book to get them started on their own love of reading. Fun and playful. A great read!
This was a cute fast read but all of the intrigue with Carters backstory fell apart for me with the easy fixes to the plot. I realize it’s middle grade but the end in particular felt too juvenile (not with foiling the villains even JUST the final chapter)
There are some diverse characters and this is diverse in ability as well as race, economic status, and sexual preference which I thought was awesome and I’d really like to see more developed giving the characters stronger voices and personalities. Don’t know if I’ll read book two but I’m not against it.

Oh man. I wanted to like this book so much, but quite honestly I think this was more meant in mind for his own children more so than the public. What I can say about this book, is that it EXUDES Neil Patrick Harris' voice and personality. You can hear his voice in the narration and its quirky and silly and sometimes a little slap stick. However, I think it's trying to use things from Lemony Snicket's works and not able to fully grasp how to properly use those techniques in his work. The book is super tropey and cheesy at times which doesn't always bother me but it often felt choppy and disconnected because of those moments. Now NPH is not a writer and I think because of that this still was a decent for what it is. I just hoped for something more I think.
3.5 I liked this new series that NPH has created about a group of young misfits and magic. I especially enjoyed listening to the audiobook with NPH's narration. I will probably check out the other books in the series, mainly because of the addition of "how to do some magic" to the stories (as well as getting to listen to NPH).
Really like this series. Diverse, fun, encouraging of exploration and thought, adventurous, and with interesting tidbits and secrets about magic. The first book was from Carter's pov and focused primarily on his background, and this one changes up to Leila's viewpoint. The characters are written realistically - they idealize the wrong person, hold onto fears from long ago, and struggle to reveal their deepest truths to those they love.
The audiobooks are fantastic.

I adored this book just as much as the first. I loved learning more about the characters and seeing how strong their friendship is.
Such a cute middle grade series about magic and friendship. NPH is amazing! More magic, and more misfits please!
