Reading this book is the new hotness. I really loved all of the topics that the authors covered in the book and their humor kept me smiling through serious topics. Definitely a must-read and will be on my top list of books for the year.

My 5 stars is for how this book affected me - I appreciated what it had to say and I read it at a time where I was willing to hear it, felt it applied to me, and incorporated what was useful. YMMV

I love, love, loved, and needed this book. There are things in it that feel maybe a bit redundant like you might already know, but every single chapter surprised me by digging deeper and going further into a concept that was groundbreaking for me.

I listened to it on audiobook while taking walks and going for runs. It inspired me so much while I was reading it that I had one of the best weeks - going for runs, feeling good, and focusing on decompressing.

Down to the very last chapter there were nuggets of gold - validation that I really needed to hear.

One of my favorite parts that I have gone back and read at least 3 times now:
“*It [joy] doesn’t come from within. It comes from connection with fellow givers. The stepping to joy is feeling like you are enough. And feeling not enough is a form of loneliness. We need other people to tell us that we are enough. Not because we don’t know it already, but because the act of hearing it from someone else and equally the act of taking the time to remind someone else that they’re enough is part of what makes us feel we are enough. We give and we receive and we are made whole.*

*It is a normal, healthy condition of humanity to need other people to remind us that we can trust ourselves. That we can be as tender and compassionate with ourselves as we would be as our best selves toward any suffering child. To need help feeling enough is not a pathology. It is not “neediness.” It is as normal as your need to assure the people you love that they can trust themselves - that they can be as tender and compassionate with themselves as you would be with them. And this exchange, this connection is the springboard from which we launch into a healthy life.*”

I picked this book up after it was suggested by my therapist. I appreciate that the authors admit that their work is not perfect nor finished as there is not enough research on trans women burnout. I was nervous this book would be stuck in a binary the whole way through.

I read this book slowly as I am slowly healing my own burnout. I found this book to validate many of my feelings and thoughts. I would recommend this book for anyone who is experiencing overwhelm and helplessness. Burnout needs to be discussed more and systemic changes to prevent burnout needs to be in place everywhere. Doing individual self care is great but it is not enough. Community care is where it is at. I can share from my own experience that until I felt support from my community, I did not feel like I could heal. Communal care is life saving. I hope whoever reads this book or this review has a safe community and are able to bravely share their experiences.

A book I feel like should be required reading for women. So informative and witty and empathetic. Possibly life saving!

This book was ripped from the post-2024 election headlines, I'll tell you whut. I recommend it if you need coping strategies in this new old world. Fact-based takeaways and loved experiences bolster the narrative.

was honestly really disappointed with this book. Other than learning the definition of human giver syndrome, i didn’t really take much out of it. I have better book recommendations to come to peace with your self in life and work.

This is probably be a yearly re-read for me. Thought-provoking, and some of the pages elicited strong emotions (anger, sadness) but well-worth the time spent. I think it will be interesting to revisit it in several months and see whether I've made any progress.
