Firstly I want to thank Realm Studios and Emilia Jae for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
HOLY MOLY did this book take forever to read. I DEVOURED the first two books and read them back to back in less than 72 hours. I was so excited for this book and I just trudged through it, it did not keep me interested. I felt that at least 100 pages could've been cut and it felt like the same dialogue the same stupid decisions and the same romance scenes. The romance fell flat for me and the dialogue between them felt forced and childish, it did not feel the same as the first two books. I loved loved the first two books and I am very disappointed by this last book, it felt rushed and everything fell flat and forced. Things just happened to happen to have a happy ending and there was hardly any real loss for the main characters like there was in the first two books. I think this should've been four books instead of three, I feel like she was trying to execute a House of Dragon or Kingdom of Ash battle build up but it did not work out. I thought it was unique but this last book just did not do it for me and I am so extremely easy to please. The pacing was terrible and it did not start moving until the last 30% and the rest was just endless build up and unnecessary scenes. I felt that there was no character growth for Lia and she stayed the same reckless hot headed irrational person whereas most of the other characters had significant character growth. I did enjoy the happy ending and the battle was pretty well written as were the villains, which I feel like were Emilia's best written characters.

It took me 3 days to comprehend what to write. This book was just amazing. I cried, I laughed, and I wanted to throw my kindle. This was the perfect completion to the series and I am so glad I was able to read the ARC of it. Now I just want the book in my hands so I can read it all over again. Thank you Em for writing a wonderful series.

Sadly i DNFd this book.

There was alot of times that the way of explaining things and feelings felt repetitive and it felt like i was being told to feel or see something instead of it just happening.

I binge read all the books so it was all definitely more obvious to me. Also the romance felt a bit clingy instead of swoony.

Maybe this could be good a beginner in romantasy.

A Throne of Wings and Embers is the final book in The Forbidden Heir Trilogy written by Emilia Jae. This story follows Elianna Valderre and Jace Cadoria as they prepare for war. After moving into the human sanctuary Alaia, as the rightful queen and heir of the realm, Elianna is thrust into her role of not only acting as a warrior of an army but also becoming a leader of human and Fae alike. Elianna along with her court work tirelessly to end a centuries long war and finally defeat the evil imposter queen who resides on the throne.

This book was action-packed, and it evoked every emotion from me. It made me cry, rage, gasp, smile, and laugh. I love these characters so much, and we were able to see their growth with the multiple POVs. I personally loved that we got the entire story through the usage of multiple POVs. The world building in this book and the others is insane. I feel like I can draw out a map of the realm without glancing at the map provided to us in the beginning of the book. Elianna was so frustrating and brilliant. She is strong, resilient, and beyond stubborn. I love how she was humbled and her court/family balanced her out. I love how everything came together. There were a few twists I was so shocked by. I loved the ending and finale of the book. In other books, you go from making a plan in 5 seconds straight to executing that plan and war. This book did not skip over any of it and built it up well. We got to see the planning, prioritizing your people, forging alliances, and every step before the war. My only complaint is that I wanted MORE and was not ready for it to end. If you are an adult fan of fantasy with mythical creatures, magic, humans, Fae, and deep characters, then this book/series is definitely for you. I highly recommend it!

Thank you SO much, Emilia Jae, for the masterpiece and the opportunity to read this. I was very lucky to have gotten a chance to read this book, and I look forward to following all of your future works.

Ok, after struggling through book two I was honestly worried about whether or not I’d be able to get through this book. I’m glad I didn’t give up and I plan on rereading book two in the future to see if maybe I was just having an off week and that’s why it didn’t click.

This was a great ending to a series that had definitely found its feet by book three. Lia has changed and grown so much between books one and three without sacrificing her “Lia-ness.” Her relationships with the other characters in the book were all quite easy to relate too, especially her bond with Nox (as weird as that might sound).

I really enjoyed the character of Jace and resident comic relief, Gage. The human trio of Jace/Gage/Zae were such a well balanced, grounded addition to the story. Plus, Jace is just swoon worthy on so many levels. Lia and him are definitely book series relationship goals.

I really loved the fact that Emilia fully committed to the whole villain thing. These were not “villains with hearts of gold” that deserved a redemption arc…they just deserved really painful deaths. And the fact that there was more than one straight up villain was not something I’m used to seeing in books I read.

Overall, I thought this was a good series. I personally would categorize it more on the Upper YA spectrum though. There was spice throughout but it was quite tame compared to most NA or adult fantasy romance reads. I also found the characters to be somewhat immature.

So, if you’re looking for something dark, spicy, super emotional, I wouldn’t say that this would necessarily check those boxes. But if you’re looking for a series that has action, adventure, magic, dragons, fucked up family dynamics, fated mates, true villains, and something more in the realm of say, Throne of Glass territory - this is the series for you.

I think Emilia did a wonderful job with this series and I look forward to seeing what she comes out with next! Thank you to The Realm Studios & Emilia Jae for the free ARC!

“I will chase you to the ends of the world and beyond.“
“Anything is possible if you are willing to barter for its asking price.”
“Give them hell, my little rebel princess.”
“Speak that way about my wife one more time, and you will regret those words.”

Great ending to The Forbidden Heir trilogy.

The book continues to follow the familiar characters from the previous two books. There was again a lot happening and a lot at stake. The story is told in multiple pov and I think that the multi-pov storytelling worked nicely for the plot.

I enjoy the author’s writing style and how she’s able to make the reader feel like they’re in the middle of the action.

Overall, this book wrapped up the series nicely, giving all the characters the ending they deserved.

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.
