I loved the movie, and this novel does SO MUCH to enrich it. It expands on many of the things that the movie had to skimp on (it ended up being two and a half hours after all) without ever feeling like it only expands on those things because people complained. There's plenty of mystical Force talk as well which I am ALWAYS here for!!!!!

I loved this book. I was amazed at how they expanded the mythology of the Force and gave concrete examples of its use in the word...while furthering the story with the new characters. I do feel the void that is...Carrie Fisher’s death has placed on the furtherance of the story. I wonder how that will unfold. Luke was handled a lot different than I thought he would be handled...but it was amazing. Awesome novelization. Now...I get to watch the movie on this coming Tuesday, March 13th. Hyped.

Massive improvement from the previous novelization, though honestly I read it for the Reylo fluff and I think the movie does it better. I was hoping for more insight into the potential relationship between Kylo and Rey, and the brief moments between them were not expanded upon, or were just completely breezed through (LOOKING AT YOU, SNOKE'S GUARD ROOM SCENE).

But I will say, while I found that the actors who played Finn and Rose had absolutely no chemistry, I loved the pairing in the book. They had sweet moments, and you could see how Rose's crush developed throughout their mission. Plus she was jealous of Rey, gotta love it, super realistic.

While lacking in the Reylo scenes, Fry did a good job of expanding the movie scenes more, giving us more moments with the Tico sisters, a dream of what could've been from Luke, etc. so if you are a fan of the movie (or if you are anti-Reylo and couldn't bring yourself to watch TLJ), this is a good option for you.

I enjoy reading novelizations of movies because sometimes I can glean more information from the plot, characters, and more. However, there wasn't too too much extra in this book, which was disappointing. Still a fun read. I'm a lifelong Star Wars fan.

Is this my favorite Star Wars movie ever? No. But was it a good movie? YES. Fans need to grow up and not expect every Star Wars movie to be the same and cater to exactly what they want. Movies SHOULD NOT do fan service. I have a feeling that fans are getting more and more spoiled as they years progress.

Read my review of the movie, which corresponds to the book here: http://hungryandfit.com/2017/12/15/non-spoiler-review-of-star-wars-the-last-jedi/

The Last Jedi is my second favorite Star Wars movie. The book is fine. It’s okay. It doesn’t come to life or wow in the same way as the movie. It mostly feels like a lot of footnotes and stuff you’ve missed.

Do you ever see a piece of candy, and you know EXACTLY what it will taste like, and that you will get ZERO nutritional benefit from it, and that it’s not made from any sort of quality ingredient, but that still doesn’t detract from the fact that you know you’re gonna enjoy it A LOT while you’re eating it and that you’ll be kinda sad when it’s gone?

‘Cause that’s exactly what reading this book was like.

I’ve seen the movie multiple times, so nothing was surprising. I knew exactly what I’d get every time I opened the book. The writing was not outstanding. But it was great getting more backstory on pretty much all of the characters and helped me appreciate them all a little bit more. Poe and Leia in particular (though it’s hard to imagine loving Leia any more than I do already). DJ was just as fun and quirky on the page as he was on the screen, scumbag that he is. I still feel like Rey and Kylo Ren are—hmm, is it a spoiler to share what I think Rey and Kylo Ren are? And Hux’s whole, “Rawr, I’m a big boy!” thing is just adorable in a scary kind of way.

Really, I just thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though it was pure candy. Probably BECAUSE it was pure candy.

I love my children, benjen chewbacca solo-organa-skywalker-naberrie, and my trash rat, rey of jakku.

Top notch novelization that gave me a renewed appreciation of The Last jedi. It doesn't significantly change the story, but it nicely fleshes out the motivations of the characters and gives a bit more insight into the state of the galaxy.
I had the audiobook recommended, advice I can fully support. Not only is the narrator a lively and engaging storyteller, but the story is complemented with appropriate sound effects and music cues that really adds to the immersion
