1.5 stars. I mean, I finished it but I probably shouldn't have....it was so tedious. I hated every single character, especially the main character. I doubt I will pick up anything by this author again.

Hard to find a mystery/thriller that feels original. Here is one that fits that bill. The characters are real, the locations have a great vibe and the writing is enjoyable.

I translated this book into Romanian, and also had the joy to meet the author in a short online conversation, which helped me understand some aspects and also encouraged me in respect to some of the characters I had really come to enjoy, and was afraid not to lose.

The Tenant is the first book in the Korner and Werner series by Katrine Engberg. I came across it during my search for Nordic mysteries.

A woman is found murdered in an apartment building and Korner and Werner are assigned to the case. It is discovered that the landlady of the building is part of a novelist group that shares stories they are in the process of writing. And, as it turns out, the murder seems to be based on one of her stories.

For some reason, I had a very hard time getting interested in the story. I felt that it was going way too slowly and I really didn’t like the characters. It took about a third of the way in to finally enjoy the book.

I think this is a series I’ll continue reading. Even though Korner and Werner don’t seem likable to me, maybe that will change in the next book.

Thriller set in Copenhagen, which I enjoyed, because I have been to this beautiful city, and some of the landmarks were familiar to me. I thought the storyline was interesting, but I am not sure that the lines of the story were clean - perhaps it had to do with the translation into English.
The Tenant is about a young girl, Julie, who is murdered in her apartment. She is the tenant in a 3 story building. Esther is the landlord, and a writer. Strangely enough, Esther has begun to write a book detailing a murder of a young woman, which is modeled on Julie.
More sinister things happen, and Jeppe and Anette, the investigators on the case, keep uncovering more and more strange situations. They have multiple suspects, and try to zero in on the murderer.
Meanwhile, Jeppe has not fully recovered from his split with his wife, and isn't emotionally stable, plus he is taking OxyContin for his "back issues".
When they discover who the murderer is, and why he killed, Jeppe and Anette are in a race to save those that they can.
