An amazing book - possibly my favourite book in the series so far. All the characters were enjoyable to read. All characters grew within the pages of this book and became even stronger and significant. I loved everything in this book; the romances, the friendships, the betrayal, the tension and the fighting. It was hilarious when Jamie, Duncan, Vee and Kenna were all in America and at the mall and all of that!!
A lot happened in this novel however it definitely didn't feel like it was an overload.

Spoilers:
Okay I kind of guessed that Emily was Adelaide. I never really liked or trusted her from the beginning.
I knew Jamie didn't die cause I saw that there was an epilogue. That didn't stop me from crying though.

Oh my. I’ve been reading this book since 2016. It’s definitely about time I finally finished it. I have somewhat mixed feelings about this book. I still very much enjoyed it but I don’t know how to feel about parts of the end.

Doon became one of my favourite series in 2016 but while it is still something I will always love, I think it might be a bit young for me now. I adored this series in middle school (I am now 19 and graduated for reference) and had I read it then, it easily would’ve gotten five stars. However, I still love this series and it will always be special to me.

Doon is such a fun series to return to. I reread the first two books this summer and had such a fun time falling in love with the series again. This book has been on my TBR for too long and has been in way too many TBR videos but I loved it all the same. We are once again reunited with the characters in this magical kingdom and you can’t not have fun reading about their lives, especially if you’ve gotten this far in the series.

The characters are definitely my favourite part of the book. I’m definitely more of a Duncan and Mackenna fan but I think Jamie and Veronica are pretty cute as well. I also love the friendship between Mackenna and Veronica and how they share a brain. I wish there were more books out there that showcased strong female friendships like this.

Doon is also such a magical kingdom and I love how well the authors have crafted it. It makes you wish some Scottish prince was calling to you so you could escape there. Overall these books are just a good time. The characters are amazing and the romance will put a smile on your face.

I’m trying my best not to spoil it but I did like where the plot went in this book. It was interesting to see the Prince’s experience some new things and also just see the couples just be happy together.

I think the ending was great but I did have issues with the big reveal twist as I saw it coming pretty easily. It’s hard for a book or a twist in general to shock me but one of my issues with this twist was that I read it before. And yes, obviously people write similar twists but this issue here is we’d already seen this twist in the first book just with a different character (and both times I predicted it correctly). I just wish this twist hadn’t been reused but otherwise the ending did leave me intrigued on how this whole series will wrap up in the end.

I’m excited to get around to the last book soon but I also never want to let this series go. 💞

The plot felt fractured - authors could have done a much better job with what they started. On the other hand, I enjoyed reading it as thoroughly brainless fare, so I can't knock it too hard.

I have missed this series and am glad I finally decided to pick it back up. Veronica and Makenna are friendship goals. Even though I share a name with Veronica, I connect to Makenna much more. She is sarcastic, witty, loyal, and loves musical theater, so I think we would get along great. And of course, Jamie and Duncan are the hot love interests to the leading ladies. The relationship between the four is amazing. Veronica and Jamie, and Makenna and Duncan are definitely "Chosen" to be together, and they go through enough to test that.

This book is fast paced with plenty of adventure, mystery, action, and of course, kissing. The only thing that brought my rating down .5 stars was how easily it seemed for the protagonists to get out of tough spots. Any time they were backed into a corner, lo and behold, something happened at just the right time to help them. I didn't really find that a realistic part of the story. However, the rest of the book was amazing and I cannot wait to read the conclusion of the series in Forever Doon.

I love this series. The world and character building is extremely well done. The split POV is done well, and it really adds to the story.

Shades of Doon is the sequel to both Doon and Destined for Doon by Lorie Langdon and Carey Corp. It follows the lives of Veronica Welling who is now Queen alongside her prince; Jamie MacCrae and also with her best friend MacKenna Reid and MacKenna's beloved Duncan MacCrae. It took me quite a while to get this book and I waited ages to get my hands on this! Carey and Lorie never failed to keep me happy. I was into the book since Day 1 and managed to finish it within a few days! The way things were described in the novel was great but I felt like it was overdone a bit. I know I'm giving constructive criticism but to be honest the novel wasn't as good as the first one. I guess it was because it kept getting dragged on especially with the witch; Addie Cadwell. I got really annoyed when she appeared again but books like these always need a villain to keep the story going.

Overall it was a good and average read at the same time, it could have done better but overall I was satisfied with it!

Much improved from the previous book in the series with a well-paced plot that forces the characters in some interesting directions. Vee and MacKenna's friendship remains my favorite part of the story, though this is the first volume where I didn't feel the need to kick Jamie out of every scene he sweeps into.
