In terms of writing quality, this should probably get 3 stars, but I just have to bump it up to 4 stars for the nostalgia factor. It was so fun to jump back into the Divergent series, which was undoubtedly one of my favorites as a teenager.
Roth presents four short stories and three vignettes about Four’s choosing, his dauntless initiation, his alienation from dauntless leadership, becoming an initiation instructor and meeting Tris, the first jumper scene, the cafeteria scene, and the “you look good” scene. It was so fun to read these from Four’s POV, but they wouldn’t make sense without the context of the original three books.
My favorite thing about this collection of short stories was that it gave such brilliant insight into Four’s internal conflict over his old and chosen factions. Reading the original books many years ago, I was under the impression that he was always meant to be dauntless even though he was divergent. Roth does a really nice job showing how Four really didn’t fit in there and how Tris was a breath of fresh air for him. It makes more sense why he fell in love with her, and her with him.
Again, such a nostalgic read. I’d recommend to anyone who enjoyed the original trilogy.

There were some moments with Tris that were fun to read from Four’s perspective, but I’m not sure it needed to be a whole book. Welp—I’ve read the whole series now!
I thought this was ok. I liked seeing things from Four’s perspective and learning more about why he chose Dauntless. Sometimes a was a little confused by the timeline. I wish there were more from his perspective.

It was nothing special, and if would like the divergent series more, I probably would have enjoyed this more too. It was fine and interesting to See out of fours perspective, even though I kinda had a feeling, that this Four and the Four out of the main books are a compleatly different person. Maybe I feel that way because it is a bit time ago when I Read divergent.

Great explanation of Fours past and made me understand the books even better!
I read the books when I was 14(ish) and I read the trilogy in 4 days. Omg I loved it and even cried at the end!
Loved this book maybe even more then the trilogy..

Loved this book, finished it in one sitting and I loved knowing what was going on in Four's world before and during Tris and his thoughts during key moments of the first novel. I definitely did not want it to end, can't believe it's over now. So much love for Veronica. <4
