Interesting concept, a lot of violence and innuendo.

This book took me awhile to get through. I struggled with the writing at first, I wasn't  a huge fan of the whole "zero" thing and just the overall dialogue of Ten's thoughts. I did however enjoy how there was a clear turning point about 3/4 of the way through the book, where the reader definitely felt a shift in which realm was better. And it wasn't necessarily explicitly because you knew what Ten's decision would be, she was clearly debating it up until the very end. Honestly there were many parts during this book where I was like, can we just speed it up a little? But the final few chapters were so intense, it completely changed my mind about the book as a whole. There was betrayal and heartbreak and passion and a grisly battle. I'm definitely very excited to see where the next book takes us and I'm hoping some of the more juvenile aspects get left behind in this book.

Okayyyy
So my fiancé got this for me on a whim so it’s not my usual cup of tea.
This book is a strange one. On one hand it’s such incredibly basic YA like everyone is gorgeous, all the guys want the main girl, and she’s extra special.
But the world and plot created was actually quite compelling. It put a lot of fascinating questions forth and did well with exploring those. However, it was extremely on the nose, so not a ton of nuance. I feel like the two afterlifes were very well thought out and interesting still.
To be honest though I didn’t really care about the characters. Ten was okay but being in her head all the time was a little exhausting. She’s immature.
The writing is also just so silly sometimes and juvenile it made me cringe more than once.
And there’s not a ton of plot outside of exploring the main issues with each realm.
One thing this writer does well at is writing emotions and making you feel it. I almost cried once so that’s crazy.
Alas it was somewhat interesting but pretty ridiculous.
Entertaining at least

Okay, so I have mixed feelings with this book. I really, really liked the premise. I thought it was original, interesting, and I like the concept of the two different realms. I also really liked both male characters in this book more than I liked Tenley. She was fine - I didn't care for her either way but I found I was really invested in Killian and Archer's wellbeing.
I thought the book started off great, it was fast-paced and the story got going but it took me to almost the end of the book to fully understand the world they live in. There was little world-building in this story which made it hard sometimes to read because things seemed to happen randomly.
On the other hand, I thought the book had a consistent storyline. The plot was great, I enjoyed the ending and I do feel like I will pick up book two if I have the time.

DID NOT FINISH

DNF

Sooooo.....I really love the concept of this story. I thought it was really cool to see Heaven and Hell with a different lense. My problem with the book was the writing and the characters. I thought the writing was too fast paced and it was sort of jerky/awkward. The plot and the things that happend were also corny and nothing suprised me. Ten, our main character, was irritating because her personality was unlikable. I understand her indicision about the two realms was the reason the story existed, but it was dragged out too long. I almost gave up on the story because of it. Her insta-love with Killian was not believeable and too forced for my taste. I didnt like Killian at all. The only character I liked out of the whole book was Archer. Over all I think it was a great idea but executed mediocrely.

4.5 really, review to come on Lisa Loves Literature this week some time!
adventurous dark mysterious slow-paced

This book has a very neat concept. It was action from bringing to end. It has a trop in here that i do not like because it wasn't done well at all. it had a love triangle in this book. There are way to many characters and i listened to it and i did not like the person who was narrating the boo. I may read the second one to see if it gets better.

But the plot was way to confusing and the 2 characters are saying they are this person when they are a whole other person. So it is weird but a very different concept. I know i am not the only one how doesn't like this first book much.
The writing is a little weird at first but you get used to it as the book goes on.
I wish that this book doesn't have so many plot points and twist and turns.
