this is an odd little story about the lost and the found, and despair like a plague infecting the living; the characters were interesting and Inis Caillte (the Fourth Island, the Lost Island) was an incredibly fascinating concept. the story is beautifully written and perhaps i’ll glean more answers from a secondary read, but i felt a little dissatisfied with how quickly the story wrapped itself up and all the loose threads that were left for me to sort through and piece together.

reads like a magical tale about a peculiar island where so many things don't make sense and some mysterious disappearances occur. since so many things don't make sense, i didn't know what was happening at times. but i didn't hate that, since the writing style was really nice and i can tell the author wanted to make the reader question things. not much plot to it at all, but the atmosphere is amazing and the writing is good.

The ball is the world. The rope pulls the world. The cow attached to the rope pulls it. We are the cow. We pull the world. The cow eats the grass. We are the grass. The cow eats us. In the cow, we pull the world. We eat the cow. In us, the cow pulls the world.

I was lured in by the haunting premise of an Isle of the Dead and Irish mythology but unfortunately ended up thinking this was a convoluted mess. The writing came off as trying too hard to be poetic and deep without achieving any sense of coherence. Did not feel literally any emotions reading this book.

it was a rather interesting read. it was captivating and mysterious from the start, and it hooks you and reels you in like so. it left a lot of questions and its like you had to dig for the answers. i didnt know what was going on half of the time and i was confused but it was a pleasant feeling still. like when you cant figure out a mystery but then it clicks and you see it was right infront of your eyes. it was confusing until the end though, and im still left baffled at the storyline and plot, but it makes sense in a way. i actually really liked it, especially the way it was written.
