If I could give it 4.5 stars, I would’ve, but 5 is more accurate than 4. This book was such an interesting read, I’ve never read anything like it. Stephen King does an amazing job at describing each of the characters storylines and thoughts. Now after reading the book, I understand the purpose of the characters storylines and how it affected them as for character development and moving the story along. It’s so crazy you can even see the moment Jack isn’t himself, when Wendy understands Jack isn’t himself, and when Danny understands what’s happening. The reason this book isn’t a 5 for me is that it was a slow burn. As you read it gets more and more interesting action wise and character wise. But the beginning is just so boring, and you’re just sitting there waiting for the action to start. But overall, I think Stephen King is a genius for writing this book and you can see all the thought behind it. Now the movie is a different story.

I went into this book completely blind.
It's crazy, I know, but I'd never even watched the movie and I didn't really know anything about it aside from the blurb. The beginning of this book was so slow, it really was a bit boring. I liked the characters, and there was some great character development throughout the book. The writing was, as always, very very good. And of course it was scary (especially the hedges)! I still prefer "realistic" horror over supernatural stuff, but that's very subjective. I was also a bit disappointed with the ending.
3/5, a classic.

I don't even know what to say!!!! This book was incredible. I wish there was maybe a few more scary things that happened at the Overlook, but overall I am very impressed and feel like I'll be rereading this book many more times.
The scariest things in this book actually are not the creepy things at the hotel, but Jack's alcoholism and Jack and Wendy's childhoods. Dear god.
I cannot wait to dive into Stephen King's other novels!

No surprise that the book is better than the movie.
Don't get me wrong the Kubrick adaptation is a good movie but calling it an adaptation just feels wrong.
The descent into madness was much more compelling in the book and the dread that creeps into your very veins is just better executed.
