3.33 AVERAGE

Read in one sitting. Yes, plot holes, average writing and trash abound but it was a fun ride. The romance has obviously upset lots of people but I liked it.

I love Sookie and I will miss her and all the characters in and around Bon Temps. Harris' Sookie books (hehe) are fast, well-paced, endearing yet surprising and sometimes gruesome novels. We bid a fond farewell to Ms. Stackhouse and her cohort in this thirteenth volume of the series. Things are wrapped up--stories lines tied into not-always-pretty bows, relationships end and begin, life ends and goes on. I am satisfied with how Harris ended Sookie's tales, something that is very hard for me with book series of such length and which I hold so dear. I can only hope Sookie fares well in the future and her life calms and settles to a peaceful existence, as she well deserves.

A big, huge thanks to [a:Charlaine Harris|17061|Charlaine Harris|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1307925926p2/17061.jpg] for so many years of great reading.

I loved binging this series but this conclusion was really disappointing!

Spoilers like woah~

The Ending was really rushed, like the last one hundred page. Its like she was just like fuck this, let it be over already.

Eric’s departure was… Quick and he sorta just left without any sort of emotional repercussions outside of the first couple of chapters where they were still kinda together.

And then there was a throwaway line how Eric was planning to have Karin, Sookie and Pam be his three little blond children and it was weird. She sorta villainized him? I mean I know he wasn't the greatest guy… but I always thought his character was better than that. Idk.

Sook and Sam just…. Got together. I thought that could have been written better. Not just… Hot day, bikini, she sunbakes and then remembers iPod which is conveniently, for the story, at Merlotte's so she goes there and Sam is all sweaty and trimming hedges? And bam sex and ‘plunging’ and it was.. badly written.

Especially how like I dont think even two weeks past since he was reserected and all this shit happened she just broke up with Eric and yeah. I guess she was all like ‘no commitment right now just sex Im still hurting from Eric and this is rebound sex but dont think its rebound sex but no emotional talks!’ Eugh.

And then she just gets kidnapped by Lawyer Guy and Newlin and CLAUDE has suddenly become the Mastermind to all this and then hes all like YOU WOULDN'T SLEEP WITH ME I HATE YOU and shes like no you are gay and then HOMOPHOBES ATTACK and they are captured by a bunch of civilians and Sookie yells to Claude about prison and he suicides by cop?

Ugh. I really reallyreallyreallyreally hate how Claude was written. Seriously. Hatehatehatehatehatehate. He was such a good character and the author just threw everything out the window and it upset me and ncufnjnfirnd.

All that in the last hundred pages, or so.

No.

I liked the first half of the story… But then it just went downhill. I will be reading the companion guide book that's coming out in October though, to see what happens with Sherriff Pam because reasons.

You can read my full review of this book at my blog, Summer Reading Project: Dead Ever After, by Charlaine Harris

It was a phoned-in finale of an increasingly phoned-in series. While it did flow better than the previous title in the series, it still lacked a substantial plot. The ending was unsurprising, but well-crafted to explain/excuse the outcome.

loved it

After reading the entire series and waiting every May for the next book, I feel incredibly let down by this conclusion. I think when you have spent approx 8 out of your 13 book series building up one relationship, it cheats the readers to decide I'm your last book to have your heroine end up with someone else who she never actually dated in the books. If she wasn't going to end up with Eric then you should have broken them up books ago to lay the foundation for this ending. I feel pretty giped by this whole book and almost like its not even part of the same series. The books as a whole weren't the best written but they were enjoyable light reads all the same. This book is just incredibly frustrating to anyone who actually read this series.
