Here With Me

I’m genuinely mad at myself for finishing this book. This book tried to be 5 different things at once and failed miserably at all of them.

Romance? Nah it was insta-lust
Ex boyfriend was a creep who was trying to win back the ex gf but it was just cringey
And then we have a mystery element with a rival trainer??? Like what???
Oh and then there’s a murder on the property????
Oh and btw at the end the ex bf finds a girlfriend but it’s given a single sentence!!!

I’m so mad.
emotional funny hopeful lighthearted sad slow-paced

I wish I could tattoo Noah and Fischers entire story on my forehead I love them so much.

this was so beautiful! even though i knew the trigger warnings, it was still so much more emotional than i expected it to be. but in the best way possible. i completely fell in love with sugarland creek, and even more so with fisher and noah. im already a sucker for small town x cowboy romances and age gap x exboyfriends dad, but this took it to the next level. the beginning was a little too instalovey for my liking, but the connection between fisher and noah made more than up for it. also the taylor swift references? sign me up every damn time! :33333

Here With Me is the first book in the Sugarland Creek series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Noah Hollis is 22, and she’s a horse trainer for her family’s ranch. One night, she meets a hot man, and there’s instant attraction between them. They have a one night stand, and the next morning, she looks at his license to figure out his age. She discovers that he’s 44…and that he’s her ex-boyfriend’s dad.

Fisher is a retired bull rider, and he’s in Sugarland Creek to reconnect with his son. He has also gotten a job on the Hollis family’s ranch as a horse farrier. When he arrives for his first day of work, he sees Noah again, and she tries to avoid him.

They can’t avoid each other, and they also can’t deny the connection they felt. But there’s the problem of his son, who has been reaching out to Noah to try to reconnect. And there’s the fact that he’s so much older than her.

Noah is sassy and feisty, but she’s also very sweet and caring. She also has a daring side, because she was performing dangerous tricks while riding horses.

Fisher is very calm and collected, but he has so much passion. I could tell that he was much more mature than Noah. He wasn’t selfish at all. I mean, as much as he wanted to be with Noah, he put his relationship with his son first. And Noah was very understanding and didn’t get upset with him over it.

They were so great together. Neither pushed the other to do something they didn’t want to do, nor did they try to stop each other from doing what they each wanted. They were both respectful of each others’ wishes and decisions. They were also both so caring and kind toward others who really didn’t deserve that kindness.

Oh, I also loved Noah’s brothers! Their little antics were funny, and I could tell that they have a very close knit family.

This was my first Brooke Montgomery book, and I really enjoyed it. I can’t wait to see what’s next in the series.

Audio review:
The narrators: Maxine Mitchell and Tor Thom.
This is told in dual style narration. The narrators were great and did an excellent job bringing these characters to life.

This book is SO GOOD! I am so glad I finally visited Sugarland Creek and if this first book is any indication of how this series goes, I cannot wait to dive into the rest of these stories.

The prologue and Fisher's background is so heartbreaking but drew me in immediately. His chemistry with Noah is instant and I absolutely loved their story. The taboo of being her ex's father plus also working for her & her family, as well as being 22 years her senior - all of this created such a wonderful storyline for that forbidden secret relationship. There is this element of suspense as the mystery of who is wreaking havoc on the ranch is an underlying plot that pushes the story forward but also creates these moments with Fisher & Noah as they navigate their relationship (hello forced proximity & caretaking).

There is this found family aspect for Fisher as he's welcomed into the Hollis family with arms wide open. His reunion with his son is one of my favorite parts, especially as their relationship starts to mend and Fisher's truth comes out. My heart melted for them. And I love how Noah plays such a wonderful role in prioritizing their relationship over her happiness.

And let's not forget this is a taboo romance so the spice is spicy, the romance hits hard and their banter is next level. Could not put this one down - devoured within a day.

Listening to this on audio really brought out this story - the dual narration by Tor Thom & Maxine Mitchell is a 10 out of 10 (love their accents).

Ex boyfriends dad
Age gap
Amazing banter
Small town

That list is everything I need in a book.
This story is good. The fmc is strong and independent which I love and our mmc and have the best banter and chemistry I have read in a long time. I was hooked from beginning to end.

This trope is top tier. I don’t think I’ve read an ex-boyfriend’s dad book since reading Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas. Whyyyyy

Noah is a horse trainer for her family’s ranch, and Fischer is a farrier who took a job to be closer to his son. They meet at a rodeo, have a one night stand, and have no idea that they have a link to the same person. He is her ex-boyfriend’s dad & is twice her age.

All I have to say is 8 seconds, y’alllllllll
emotional funny hopeful lighthearted tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix

Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

It's been years since I've read a book by Brooke Cumberland (now writing under Brooke Montgomery). When she announced a small town, 20-year age gap, cowboy, and forbidden romance, I knew I had to pick it up.

Here With Me brought all the feels: a bit of suspense, the thrill of stolen moments, a heartbreaking past, intricate family relationships, and, above all, love. Noah Hollis and Fisher Underwood have a one-night stand while at a rodeo. Before sneaking from his camper, Noah discovers Fisher's last name and instantly knows he is her ex-boyfriend's father. Maybe it was a coincidence, and they will never cross paths again.

Well, the joke is on her. She works as a trainer in her family's horse ranch and is expecting the new farrier. In walks Fisher. Despite their undeniable and scorching chemistry, they can't act on it. Not only is it unprofessional, but Fisher is trying to rebuild his relationship with his son. OMG, the tension and the stolen glances.

These two show that age is just a number. Yes, Noah seeks the thrill of adrenaline, and at times, her actions make it very evident she is a 22-year-old. But she also shares a connection with Fisher like no other, giving him a safe space to confide his fears and regrets. Noah is the person he opens to. His past is heartwrenching, and while he has come a long way, he still needs to make amends.

The Hollis are a crazy and lovable bunch. Noah's grandma steals the show; she is seriously the best. Meanwhile, Noah's four older brothers promise to be entertaining and a handful in the following books because Here With Me is just the beginning of a great series.
