i think mina’s biggest problem is her husband is actually stupid. i did enjoy this a lot but she literally suffered more than jesus. she spent like 75% of the book crying and every time it was deserved. i think the ending was kind of abrupt, there wasn’t enough groveling, and mina deserves to kill some people but otherwise a good read

4.5 stars:
Sweet marriage of convenience in Recency times.

Mina is 30, plump and a spinster elder sister in her married brother's household. Before his marriage Mina was mistress and had many responsibilities which she enjoyed. Now she has been usurped by her well-meaning but empty-headed 19 year old sister-in-law and Mina is at a loss.

Simon had his heart broken 2 years ago when the woman he adored married someone else. He realises that he needs a helpmate and a wife who can run his household. He thinks he has no heart left to give so looks for a suitable bride who could settle for a loveless but comfortable arrangement based on friendship and mutual respect.

Mina and Simon seem to be perfect for each other's requirements. Both are likeable characters and this is the story of how friendship can grow into more if only you know how to recognise it.

This is a sweet romance with no descriptive love scenes.

Great story, pace and characters, but didn't enjoy the writing at all. Too explicit and explanatory. Also random, details just come and are left to hang in the air - e.g. the introduction of brother Graham, who I felt is only mentioned, so there can be a book about him at a later stage. Anyways, the book did capture my attention. The miscommunication  pained at times, but fitted well with the story. I kept reading to see how Simon will grow out of his naivety. I think the story organisation worked well in this point.

Simon was such an absolute d*ck that I could not enjoy this, knowing that there would be a 'happy' ending in which he would be rewarded with Mina and make her miserable forever with his sheer oblivious selfishness.

The charters were cute and fun, but this really mossed out on a lot of the communication

I reallyy enjoyed this.

A thought I had about 30% in was what a great job the author does of really transporting me into the story. Each characters felt fully formed and I felt for each of them. I enjoyed the pacing also as the story progressed.

I find that I have a taste for plots that centre on the actual marriage of the couple and their lives within it.

This isn't 5 stars because as my updates alluded to, Mina was hurt a lot during the course of this story. So much! While the author did a fantastic job of stoking a passion in me for her defence, it did mean there wasn't a lot of levity so I can strictly say that I /enjoyed/, or had a lot of fun reading this story. I did enjoy that Simon was appropriately rebuked at the conclusion of the story. My biggest pet peeve is when a character has been acting like total trash the whole story and it's all resolved in like a paragraph with no seeming consequence.
That was not the case here and I was living for it.

All in all, thoroughly enjoyed this read.

I would give it more stars because I genuinely enjoyed the story but holy the editing was not good. There shouldn't be that many typos and errors in a finished product.
