Molly has a secret career as an erotic romance author. She's come home to Tumble Creek to get away from a creepy ex and to find new inspiration for her next novel.

Molly's original inspiration, the uber sexy police chief Ben Lawson, is dying to know what Molly's job is, especially since he is desperately attracted to the funny, adorable, and outgoing minx. Molly's afraid to get involved, but their mutual attraction leads to some awesome sexy times and love.

Putting a bit of a damper on their fun is the kind of scary things happening to Molly. She hopes it isn't her ex and just when she's about to come clean to Ben, the truth hits like a truck.

Super fun, great banter, hot sex, and a characters who both have flaws but don't lie to one another. Molly is forthright about why she won't share her career with Ben and is honest when she does. Ben, for his part, is a sexy, stoic lawman with a decidedly hot streak and a fun spirit.

Dahl did a great job making a creepy ex (a police negotiator) who convinces everyone around Molly that she is the crazy one. Super real, super scary. I loved that Ben didn't buy it.

I wanted something light and funny, with a little bit of romance, during an intense week of grad school orientation. I liked the sample from Amazon, and Smart Bitches/Trashy Books gave it a thumbs up, so I went with it. This was just trashy, and the plot was exceptionally flimsy.

UPDATE: I still think the plot was flimsy but having read some seriously irritating romance novels including the phrase "lady knot," I have a new appreciation for Victoria Dahl's commitment to healthy female sexuality. Bumping up to three stars.

Talk Me Down, is one of those books I bought that I got interested about since it's protagonist is an author. It's also one of those books that I was searching for: an erotic mystery thriller, which I only found out after looking for said genre of novels.

Talk Me Down is about an erotic novel author, Molly Jennings, moving to a new town to escape a relationship that did not go to well and starting a new. Yet troubles follows her as she figures out that she has a stalker that wants her, one way or another. An exciting, mystery filled, erotic novel that will make your heart race for the thrill and the hot scenes.

Readers who would want to read this for the erotic element might be a little disappointed because of the lack of engaging, graphic, erotic scenes. It does have a few, but one might be disappointed for the shortness of those scenes. The novel focuses on the mystery side, and then added bits and pieces of erotica to make the story move. Without it, the story won't move at all.

This, I think, made the story exceptional; incorporating the erotica side to a mystery flawlessly, and not just scenes added for the sake of having an erotic element.

I would recommend this to mystery lovers though I must admit, it was easy for me to find the culprit, until an unexpected twist. Those looking for an erotica might be disappointed, but I would still recommend this for the story.

After reading Victoria Dahl's Donovan Brothers Brewery series and absolutely adoring it, I was quite greedy to find and read more of her work, so I was pretty excited to pick up Talk Me Down.

While I didn't immediately love it the way I had with Dahl's other books, I did quite enjoy Talk Me Down overall. I really liked the mysterious aspect of the plot. It took a romance that, while hot and sexy, probably would have been somewhat typical and added an interesting edge without it feeling too over the top.

Even in situations that were absolutely terrifying, there was still just an edge of humor to keep it from turning into something that just felt like it was too much.

The reason this story got four stars instead of five actually had more to do with the characters than the plot. I thought Ben was great. I liked him a lot. He wasn't perfect by any means, but he was a good guy.

My problem was with Molly. Overall, I liked her. She was sassy and fun. However, there were times when she also just really got on my nerves. After a while I came to understand that part of it was a defense mechanism, but it was so aggravating at times. Her reactions or behaviors added complications and frustrations where I felt it wasn't necessary.

I liked many of the minor characters and I'm looking forward to, hopefully, seeing them reappear in the other books of the series.

I picked up Start Me Up first but this was the one I wanted to read. When I listened to an older interview with Victoria Dahl and she mentioned a heroine being an erotic romance author, I was in. I put my name on the hold list and just waited it out. I always love it when the heroines are more than yoga instructors, small-town librarians, and waitresses. I prefer the heroines in my romances to have interesting jobs and what is better than an erotic romance author?

Molly Jennings moved back to town after dealing with a creepy ex and conveniently inheriting a house. Once there she becomes the topic of a bit of gossip since no one knows what she does and their sheriff has a bit of a thing for her. Ben, who hates gossip, is hesitant to get involved with Molly but quickly succumbs to the mystery and sex-appeal of Tumble Creek's returning resident. Once involved, Molly is threatened by a stalker and Ben has to protect her from that stalker while reeling from the information, she used him in her first erotic story.

Molly was a kickass, take-no-prisoners kind of woman but her job is a bit of a sticking point. After dealing with being the second-favorite child she learned her family wouldn't be overly accepting of her career no matter how happy it makes her. She doesn't apologize for her likes, wants, or desires. She knows she wants Ben and she pursues him with nearly a one-track mind. On top of that, her creativity sparks when her first muse (Ben) comes back into her life.

Ben, on the other hand, was a quiet, reserved sheriff who hates gossip. He had a bad experience when he was younger when his father, the school principal, slept with a student. Understandably he tries his hardest to avoid the media and any source of gossip. When Molly's secret comes out and the entire town starts gossiping, Ben has to learn to deal with whether Molly is enough of a reason to let the past go.

I love stories where the heroine has an interesting profession. She's not your secretary/assistant/mistress/etc. She's your 'this is something I love to do' heroine. I loved the fact Molly doesn't apologize for herself. She keeps her job a secret but once it comes out she owns it. She also tries to watch out for herself. She doesn't come right out with "protect me, you sexy beast" which is amazing in romances. At the same time she understood when things where too much for her and she called for help. Seriously romance heroines everywhere need to do that. Call when you need help!

I was so excited to get back into Tumble Creek again and see Lori and Quinn before their story. This is a great read and a lot of fun for contemporary romance readers. If you need a fast, fun, sexy read then check out this series and I recommend you start with this one.

Molly has a secret and it involves Ben, which might end thing between them after having to wait so long for it to start.

Molly Jennings is a writer of erotic romance, but she keeps her profession secret from her family and friends. After a difficult break-up, Molly returns home to Tumble Creek to escape her manipulative ex and becomes involved with her childhood crush turned Chief of Police, Ben Lawson. No stranger to scandal, Ben is wary of falling for the secretive Molly, but must put his reservations aside when someone starts stalking her...

Molly is an endearing mix of witty sarcasm and ditzy silliness. Despite her often good intentions, she is constantly getting into trouble and calling Ben to come to the rescue. For most of the book, Ben is an incredible hero, sexy, honorable and loving. Unfortunately, toward the end, he turns into a petulant, sanctimonious jerk whose humungous ego almost gets Molly killed.

The plot is comprised of two main threads, Molly’s secret profession and her creepy stalker. While the keeping secrets trope is usually a no-no for me, in this particular case it isn’t too bad perhaps because Ben is aware of the secret from the get go.

The suspense plot seems obvious and straightforward at first but the twist at the end caught me completely by surprise, so kudos to Dahl in this respect.

All in all, a mostly light and entertaining read with a heart-pounding climax. Will read more by this author.
