I still read this in a day but liked it much less than it’s predecessor. Got pretty repetitive.

I can’t honestly say that any twists in this book surprised me; it was exactly what I expected. But at the same time, it didn’t disappoint in the slightest. It was a fast and enjoyable read and I’d recommend this book in a heartbeat!

3.2⭐️
I really wanted to love this book because I adore Elizabeth O’Roark writing style but I found myself not rooting for Erin and Brendan their relationship was already toxic but once they got together it became even more.

The whole book they tried to villainize Rob which I understand they needed to make someone else the bad guy instead of figuring their shit out and realizing that they were the problem especially Brendan who was so freaking mean with Erin that I just don’t understand how she kept accepting his apologies. It’s been a long time since i read something so frustrating and I am even more upset bc I just wasn’t able to put this down just waiting to see if Brendan would change his mind and straight out things with Erin.

Also I really enjoyed this authors other books especially the devil and the blue see bc they are always filled with raw and complicated characters but Brendan was just an idiot and his arc could have gone so much deeper bc we still don’t know why was he a player in his early years and for Erin the author dig a little deeper in her past which was good but I still couldn’t justify the self destructive actions that she made like keep taking shit from her mother and not being able to resist Brendan when it came to sex. I’m sorry but the author only wanted to make Erin go through so much pain that at times it was just so difficult to continue reading with being so angry at anyone that was giving her shit.
This book just put in a bad mood all over again while writing this review.

4.75 stars! I really loved this book. I love well done angst, and this one had me having chest pangs sooo many times.

Spoiler warning!!!
No matter how douchy someone is, falsely accusing them of sexual harassment is not okay. I really wish the author hadn't gone there.

I enjoyed this book enough to breeze through it in about a day. Unfortunately it was very forgettable. I finished this two days ago but had to open up my highlights to remind myself what happened and who the characters were, despite the FMC's name being in the title. I'd recommend A Deal with the Devil instead. O'Roark knocked it out of the park with that one.

4 Stars.

Wow I really don't know what I'm feeling right now.

On one hand, Erin's thoughts and emotions were like a carbon copy of my own, and I've never felt so heard and understood in my life. Like what I feel is valid and I'm not alone in my apathy caused by my environment.

On the other hand, the back and forth between Erin and Brenden made me want to grab them by the necks and lock them together in a room until they both finally lay all their confessions out.

But, seeing as how I stayed up all night and finished this book in one sitting despite having an 8am class, I'm going to justify giving this a solid 4 stars.

This book perfectly showcases why money isn't everything in life.

Money may guarantee stability, but it cannot guarantee happiness.

Too many people don't understand that. Too many people put money first. Too many people ruin relationships because of money. And too many people don't realize that they can't bring money to their grave.

My heart hurt for Erin. She was a brilliant girl who let her "other-half" gradually snuff out her light. She gave up too much of herself to keep the peace in the relationship.

It was beautiful to witness her journey of slowly finding pieces of herself again. Her transition also gave me hope that one day, I too, will be able to go from surviving to thriving.

   | I read many reviews about this book on Goodreads. Many of those reviews are about how immature the characters are. And I have to agree with those reviews..... at the beginning of the book. Yes I thought Erin and Branden are immature characters. They both too scared with commitment issue and loving the person they really loved.

But then, somehow along the story, I connect with Erin. See, I can understand what Erin's journey in life. She felt drowned. Drowned in life where everyone is depending on her. How she hates her job, her suck boss and her non existing supporting fiancee. She feels like she have to sacrifice herself to save everyone. But Branden... I feel he someone I do not understand. I can not help thinking that what happened to him in the past is because of his fault. He lies. And all of the mess in his life is because of his lies. And he is too coward to be honest.
