I really liked this book up until the last 1/4. The setting, the bonds between the characters, and the exploration of a boarding school were enjoyable. I thought Isa cheating on Owen with Luc was poorly done but could’ve been a decent plot point/conflict. Freya felt like an unnecessary plot device throughout the whole book, and shocker, she was. This could’ve been so much better if there was more focus on the girls’ experience at Saltern and with Luc and Ambrose. Luc and Kate killing Ambrose because he wouldn’t let them be together was so dumb! It would’ve made more sense if the town rumors were true and that Ambrose had been SAing Kate (or something similarly dark) so Luc offed him (especially considering his own trauma with SA). There was so much potential for this story and these characters that felt kind of squandered in the end.

Good weekend veg-out reading. Overwritten in parts, this potboiler had enough interest to keep me reading to the somewhat predictable, melodramatic finale.
This book started off slowly for me but for the last 150 pages I couldn’t stop reading.
Isa, Fatima, Thea, and Kate kept their horrible secret (lie?) for 17 years but it finally catches up with them. We get to see how Isa deals with the added pressure to her relationships specifically with Owen, the father of her child. And how she pieces together everything that actually happened that night to change all their lives.
The ending was almost to pat and no one has to answer for anything- even the blackmailer. They just tell one more lie and seemingly ride off into the sunset.

I liked the characters and the storyline and even the way it was written, but some things just bugged me.
I know this was called the Lying Game, but a 32 year old professional mother and the lying and problems she was causing in her adult relationship! That was just frustrating.
Also there was a lot of self-reflection, the same thought process repeatedly It got a bit dull at times. Still, a decent book by one of my newly found favorite authors.
