My friend recommended this book to me after he watched the film. Before reading this book, I had only saw the trailer. This novel was 100% not what I thought it was. I really thought this was a book for kids in late elementary early middle school, but it is definitely more Young Adult. I found it unique that as you read there are photographs that relate back to the story. I wish the diction was a little more challenging, but I find that problem with many books and I think it is just me. Overall it felt like reading Inuyasha (not sure if anyone else has read the manga or watched the anime), but I still enjoyed it. I can't wait to read the next to novels, just so I can decided if I like the complete story.

A middle grade narrative with young adult content. I loved the idea, and the story and characters were interesting, yet rarely exciting.
Cross The Night Circus with Spooks and you are fairly close to the feel of this deliciously gothic, macabre book. Add some authentic, freaky black and white photos and you end up with a nice YA novel with a difference. Throw in some time travel and it's fair to say I was hooked! Dived straight into the sequel...
Word on the street is there's a film in the making to be directed by Tim Burton. Hate films of books but I am excited...

I have been wanting to read this book for a long time. My students kept recommending this book to me over and over. I finally could get it from the library after being on a wait list for over a month!
This book did not disappoint me. Ransom Riggs is a great author. He had a great story and plot line for the readers! I also enjoyed seeing the story from a male perspective! It is very rare to 1)have it from a male perspective or 2)be a good male perspective.

i read this as a child and it scared me, i read it now and its simply such a beautiful and scary and sad book. i love it so much and i can’t wait to read the second one!!
This book was really enjoyable. I liked how Jacob grew up hearing amazing stories from his grandfather about his youth, and he discovered they were true. He gets to meet the people and see the home where his grandfather grew up, thanks to a time loop. The use of creepy photos added to my enjoyment of the story. Can't wait to read more of this series.
