Fluffy, unrealistic, but a bit entertaining. A nosy redhead cookie baker does a bunch of defective work and solves a murder mystery in a small town.

The writing felt fairly juvenile. I did appreciate all of the Minnesota references, I didn’t realize it was set in Minnesota until I started reading. But it was all mostly predictable and there were too many characters to keep track of.

Reads dated (used “slightly retarded” to describe a person) and I wasn’t connecting with characters or environment. Not the cozy series I was looking for.

I had high hopes for this being a series I could read as a casual way to spend an afternoon curled up in comfort. Whilst I read it, I was too distracted by the premise of a cookie store owner being a better detective than her detective brother-in-law. Pity really, as it was a fairly enjoyable read, but I'm afraid I couldn't get beyond it. I did copy down the recipes though!

Light reading and not so light recipes! I did make one and it was yummy.

Sugary sweet, wholesome murder mystery book. Great for those who don't like anything too thrilling or suspenseful, or even graphic and gory. So, basically Murder She Wrote in book form, but with a baker instead of a writer.

Passed the time well on long runs. Protagonist seemed closer to 50 than 30.
