I really like how this book and the search for ancient earth ties the Foundation books and the Robot books together in a culmination of over 20,000 years of human history!

Slow in places, but at the same time hard to put down.
Almost contrived/predictable, or perhaps just inexorable?

I’m so disappointed by this book. I heartily enjoyed the previous one, and was very interested in the search for Earth. However, the majority of the book was either red herring after red herring or Trevize and Bliss having the same argument repeatedly. Anticlimactic ending too - it makes the original trilogy feel less special.

I'll admit, I found this book a bit of a drag to get through, and even a little of a disappointment.

Ever since the resolution of 'Foundation's Edge', I had been a bit disappointed that the Second Foundation storyline had - for most intents and purposes - been abandoned. Add to that the fact that we spent an entire second book with the same characters (where the first 3 books had been ripe with new characters and eras), it really felt like the story shifted in the greater premise of the third act of this story.
I also wasn't on favour of the ending being ambiguous; I wanted the effort I put into the story to have a worthy payoff, and I don't feel that this lived up to my expectations.

That said, the progress on the journey to find Earth and uncover its secret(s) was interesting enough to keep my attention. And I suspect the majority of my feelings on this book stem from what I feel is a divergence from the original plot of the overall story, so if that's not a thing you hold terribly important - keeping moving forward at a consistent pace with the timeline - then it may not bother you at all.
