Depressing, dark and explicitly honest. Easy read, but so sad and graphic. Sudden character development at the end too.

Eu não sei o que é ter depressão, mas acho que esse livro é o mais perto da realidade de todos que já li.

Very well written, this book has real power. It was a bit too much sexual content for me though - in the sense that I would have loved to read about other facets of the narrator much more instead.

A beautifully written book that I think will really linger with me. The writing was so visceral and carnal and the protagonist’s passive suicidality and family issues were so authentic, hitting and poignant. Ending was such a surprise and made the structure all cleverly fall into place, what a book
Graphic: Suicide attempt

I’m glad I gave Eva Baltasar’s work a second go because I enjoyed this one much more than Boulder (I read them out of order oops but it’s okay because they’re about different characters.) While, like Boulder, Permafrost focused on a cynical narrator and her intense sexual encounters, this one felt more thoughtful and sincere with the family elements, especially at the end. I was rooting for the main character and interested in what would happen to her.*
Baltasar’s writing is addictive and timeless and I’m curious to read the third book in this series since I had very different reactions to the first two.
*trigger warning tho because she is extremely suicidal throughout the entire book and it caught me off guard

I have now read this book 5 times and will probably read it many more. I'm not a person that tends to reread books but something about this story, this character, the way both Baltasar and Sanches have so beautifully and realistically written about topics that can be so difficult to write about has made it my comfort read. My love of this book is deeply personal, and I probably wouldn't expect others to love this *quite* as much as I did. But, to sound horribly pretentious, this book is one of those that speaks to some part of my soul and I will carry it with me always. I cannot wait to revisit it again <33
