It was ok. I wanted to care about these guys so much, and sometimes I did, but something always made me want to punch one of them.

The first half of this was A+ and the second part was C -

There was soooo much time on the page where we don’t even hear from Davy. Am so used to multi pov, this one felt off every time we kept not getting Davy’s perspective.

But I really enjoyed this. It was the first book that kept my attention in a while.

Kurt's a cop and is injured during a bust gone wrong. His partner is killed. That is just about how much police work there is in this book. The rest is mostly romance about self-revelations and being true to yourself.
There is a bit of angst, but that's not the real focus.
I sort of wanted Davy's side too, but still not sure if it would actually make the story better.

Cop Out by KC Burn is a well-written story with honest emotions and flawed protagonists. No angst, no insta-love and a beautiful ending make Cop Out a must read for fans of m/m romance. 4.5 stars.

It took me a little while to get into the almost detached writing style and frequent time jumps, but once I did, the story took me.

It was entirely different than what I had expected, mainly because Kurt's partner, Ben, turned out to be different from what the blurb suggests.

It's almost a subtle love story, one of those that sneak up on you.

I was sad whenever life took me away from the story, and I'm sad it's over now.

I didn't really like the relationship between Davy and Kurt, and also how the relationship started.
The miscommunication was extremely bad, like a few chapters bad. I feel like you couldn't really get to know these two together, and at times it felt really superficial..

》“I want you to fuck me.”
Davy stilled, finger poised over his hole. “What?”
“Doc cleared me for, uh, more vigorous activity.”
A breathy groan escaped Davy, and his hips jerked. “Jesus, Kurt. I almost came.(...)《

Enjoyed it enough that I finished the novel all the way through without breaks. I don’t usually read stories where the MC struggles with coming out, but this story was a good reminder about how difficult it is for people even now to come out to their friends, workers and families - even when they shouldn’t be hurting themselves over the struggle or anguish. This was a comfort healing story for sure, and I’m going to be reading more from this series / author!

★★★½.
This was a new plot for me in GFY but it worked well in my opinion. Detective Kurt O’Donnell was injured in an explosion that killed his work partner Ben. As a good partner, Kurt decided to extend himself to Ben's family but quickly realized that he didn't know anything about Ben's family. So Kurt went in search of Ben's family and this is when Kurt realized that Ben wasn't who he thought he was.
First of all, Kurt had no idea that Ben was gay nor did he know about the partner Davy. Second, when he got to know Davy and how Ben treated Davy, Kurt felt guilty and tried to help Davy pick up the pieces of his devastated life.

The mourning of Ben made Kurt and Davy get close and soon Kurt, who is straight, found himself having sexual fantasies about Davy. But Kurt couldn't act on them because he is catholic, plus the fact that he wasn't gay. Besides, after what Davy went through with Ben, a closeted detective was not something Davy wanted to experience again. Is being friends enough?

I liked Kurt and I especially liked how close his family was. I loved Kurt's new work partner and that relationship was obviously more valuable and way more supportive than what he had with Ben. I liked how compassionate Ben was overall, especially considering that he sent texts for over 6 months with no reply. I am ambivalent about Davey. I just didn't feel like I got a good sense of who he was. He was just really weak but that was understandable since his partner for 6 years was just murdered, who wouldn't be feeling so low? He obviously had friends and a real life before because they all popped back in once the barrier (Ben) wasn't in the picture. So I know he must have been a great guy before his self-esteem was smashed. Maybe we will see more of him in the next book.
