4.5 stars. This is a nice, slow GFY story. I liked the time that the author took to get her guys together, and particularly enjoyed the cast of supporting characters. I like when a MC has a family and friends to interact with who are well integrated into the story. Although Kurt is a cop, there is no mystery component to this book, but his profession does have a significant impact on the course of the story. A few unexpected twists between the MC's kept things interesting.

Finally, a book with some relationship development! I really enjoyed the gradual pace of this romance, though there were two things I found hard to believe:
Spoilerthat Kurt would pull Davy into his lap to comfort him that first day he went to the house, and that Kurt wouldn't think to tell Davy right away that he had finally come out of the closet.
Otherwise, this was a great book that I didn't want to put down!

I read Cop Out a couple of years ago and gave it a five star rating. But as an audio… It’s awesome! After surviving the explosion that killed his partner Ben, Detective Kurt O’Donnell finds out that as much as he thought he knew his partner, Detective Ben Kaminski had a secret. While attending his partner’s funeral, Kurt mistakenly assumes that Ben left behind a pregnant wife, which turned out to be false assumption.

Ben did leave someone behind, but not a wife.

It’s at this point of the story that I’m not feeling too sympathetic over Ben’s death. Finding out that Ben was a closeted gay man and an extreme neat freak was bad enough, but to also find out that Ben’s paranoia of being outed meant forcing his partner of ten years to keep their relationship a secret, thus driving Davy to the point of isolating himself from friends and family, felt borderline abusive. As the blurb mentions, Kurt does help the grieving Davy, and it doesn’t take long before the two become good friends. This is what captured my attention and hooked me into the story to make it worth a repeat experience.

When I saw that Cop Out was out on audio and saw who the narrator was, well, duh, I was not gonna pass up a chance to listen to Tristan James’s sexy voice. For me, the listening experience of having Kurt and Davy brought to life is so much better than just reading the story. I love it when the voice matches the characters, and just the right emotion is thrown in to make it an emotional and moving experience. Examples of my emotional moments: Kurt becoming jealous of Davy when he came home with Andrew, Kurt falling apart when Davy kicked him out of his life, when Kurt came out to his mom. I found myself holding my breath, waiting to see what her reaction would be. Then there was the part when Simon was in the ambulance with Kurt.

I’m giving the audio version of Cop Out another 5 Stars! And I’m highly recommending it if you enjoyed the book version. You will not be disappointed.

The story went by to fast and felt choppy in some places, but over all was a sweet story. And im a sucker for a big irish family.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a friends to lovers story, and those are always great. It was also Gay For You and those are always one of my favourites. I also enjoyed the Canadian setting.

I really loved Kurt and Davy. Davy was a sweetheart and I enjoyed seeing him heal and grow. I hated hearing how he was abused by Ben. I was pleasantly surprised to find out he was a top. Kurt was also very sweet and romantic. I loved how dedicated he was to Davy and even after Davy tried to kick him out Kurt never moved on even after so long. He really loved him.

I loved Kurt's family and I knew they would be supportive of Kurt even though he was worried. I was very surprised by the revelation about Kurt's brother, but it was an interesting twist. It reminded me of another book I have read, [b:In the Middle of Somewhere|25687508|In the Middle of Somewhere (In the Middle of Somewhere, #1)|Roan Parrish|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1433927277s/25687508.jpg|45515563].

I was hoping book 2 would be about Ian, but it seems I will have to wait for book 3 for that, and book 2 is about Ivan, who we hardly know. But I am sure it will be great.

3.5 - Interesting premise, interesting characters, and a more realistic approach to realizing you may be gay at the age of 31. K.C. did a great job with the road to discovery - it was not instant and not just a shrug of the shoulders and say 'huh, must be gay' and be okay with it. Both of the MCs had major head issues and it was good to see that they both realized they needed the time to figure it out. I needed more at the end, but all in all a good book.

Completely unrelated to the story, but who chooses these covers?? Makes it very awkward to read the book in public when I swear to God, it's a pretty innocent one. Like yeah, there's sex, but it's not erotica like the cover makes it seem!

Right, now that that's done with, on with my review:

I really enjoyed reading "Cop Out". Books like this usually come with double POV, if not more, so just one POV was surprising but it certainly worked. I liked all the characters, the writing and I found the story interesting and easy to follow. I also enjoyed how it was about more than just being gay, how it was about family and friendship, moving on, and it had a wonderful secondary cast as well.
