Read 3/4 of the book. Stopped on page 264. Probably would have liked this book as a teenager, but the writing is too plain for me (and kind of cheesy). I am a Christian, but I didn't like its role in this book. Zach seemed too pushy. Characters are relatable, but I don't particularly like them and am not attached to them to find out what happens.

As one of four sisters, I know how siblings can push our buttons, cut us down, lift us up, extend forgiveness, sacrifice for us, give more than we could ever expect, and know us the way no one else ever could. I found all this and more in Beth Vogt’s latest book, a story of sisters dealing with life and the self-doubt, competition, guilt, bitterness, disappointment, and pain that tend to accompany “adulting.”

Beth spills out onto the page the secrets and heartaches these sisters are hiding and lets us see how those feelings affect their relationships and life choices. Then events push them to crossroads where they must decide if reconciliation, peace, joy, and love are worth fighting for.

It’s a beautiful thing when the healing begins and the sisters start to learn what being a family really is. Though there is more of this family’s story to play out, the ending of this first book in the series is uplifting and hopeful. An uplifting, satisfying read!

It was so easy to relate to the characters and the pain they were all experiencing. Even years later I find myself holding onto things. Grief is neverending. And Jillian's struggles were reminiscent of current events in my life.

For the length of this book, I finished it rather quickly. Another thing to note is that it normally takes me longer to read contemporary opposed to sci-fi or fantasy and I flew through this book. The book was well written and the content was enjoyable.

This book follows three sisters, after the death of their sister. It shows a dysfunctional family, slowly coming to grips with their grief and growing closer together.

This book is full of emotion and "real life". I got caught up in each of the sister's stories and wanted to know what would happen.

The characters were well-written and had real problems. I felt sad for the characters and felt their pain and struggles as the story continued on.

I loved the aspect of Payton slowly opening her heart to God, and I love the part that Zach plays in this book.

Another thing I loved was Payton's transition throughout the story. She started off in a really bad place at the beginning of the story and ended up in a slightly better place. I love that her life wasn't suddenly perfect, but it was a slow change.

I look forward to reading whatever coming next in this series.

If you enjoy reading contemporary Christian fiction, then I highly recommend that you add this book to your reading list!

Thank you to Tyndale House Publishers for sending me a copy of this book!

Parenting twins and having a sister who died, this book hit me much more than I anticipated!

Ok so first of all if you’re not very religious I would recommend this book. I am in an in between area and even then I found the religion portions - while they weren’t over bearing they were very prominent and using God as a way to justify some things. That being said it’s only majorly focused on the last quarter or so of the book.
However I really enjoyed how this book was written, I found myself and the edge of my seat quickly turning pages when things like the lockbox were uncovered or figuring out what Zach of Geoff’s intentions were.
Johanna was a straight up biatch. I hated her character and couldn’t stand whenever she would force her planning issues on anyone. Not surprised Beckett wanted to station far from her.
Jillian. Oh poor Jillian. I really felt for her when she got her breast cancer diagnosis and everyone was more concerned with her wedding than with her. Gosh Geoff was s trooper tho. I felt really bad when she left him bc of her cancer but it’s like sis he still wants you. Although I definitely saw where she was coming from with all her insecurities.
Poor Payton most of all. She felt burdened with the thought that it was her fault and taking all the blame must’ve really messed her up. I did still feel for Nash when she dropped him like that even though it was all because of her own insecurities. I do really hope she pursues her volleyball dream even with Pepper gone. I also hope she gives Zach a chance if he even wants that.
That being said I won’t continue with the series. The religiousness really threw me off.

Things i never told you / Beth K. Vogt
3.5/5 ⭐️

My most recent read was things i never told you, and i thought it was pretty good. This was a lighter book, more about family dynamics and grief. it follows a girl who’s twin sister died at age 16, and how it affected the family, present, past, and future. it also dives into what exactly happened the night of her death, and telling the truth. this was a perfectly good read, not a wow though. there are more books in the series, so im trying to decide if i want to read those!
