dark reflective slow-paced

keeping in mind aaron poochigian's liberties of his translations, as he himself noted before baudelaire's pieces begin, this collection is pretty rad. i've never read a more interesting, relevant & well-written, albeit lengthy, introduction to an author & their work than this. the actual poems themselves are fascinating w their concepts (even more so during the time they were written) & the translator does a fantastic job of working on the flow of them. the collection & its creator are complex, i would consider, therefore i wouldn't recommend this if you're going for a more touristic perusal of poetry. but!! there is excellence in this, i swear!!

"The Flowers of Evil" by Charles Baudelaire

"The Flowers of Evil" is one of the first Poetry collections of the 19th Century French poet Charles Baudelaire, published in the year 1857. It contains nearly all of his poems. The poems in this collection tackle mainly on the matters of religion, its symbolisms vivid, the narrators' crises of the subject etc. Apart from the symbolisms, the poems also are about wine, one of Baudelaire's topics to talk about, about love, and about the dire social conditions of France at the time of this poetry collection's publishing.

MY THOUGHTS:
I never exactly expected Baudelaire to incorporate religion and the like to his poetry. The man writes excellently, an idea I'd learn from. These poems only took me 1 hour and 30 minutes to read, the title poem and "Benediction" are my personal favorites. Overall a great poetry collection and can be a great introduction for the reader into the greatness of French literature.

The poetry really started to annoy me.  I dunno, I like Rimbaud better.

dark emotional mysterious reflective

A poetry collection that covers themes such as beauty, love, death and humanity. Just like in other poetry collections, I liked some poems more than others. But the feeling I was left with after finishing this one was a lot stronger than with most others. It will certainly linger with me. I am amazed and lost for words at Baudelaire's talent. By the end, there were a few poems that were too dark for me and that prevented me from giving it a higher rating. But overall my reaction is just : wow.

Han är antingen ledsen, kåt eller ledsen och kåt. Gråtrunken är strong in this one.
