I would advise anyone with an eating disorder to stay away from this book. It’s nothing ground breaking in terms of practical advice and some interesting but limited info about the metabolic processes, but I don’t think it’s worth the eating disorder triggers.

I like that it encourages to drop the calorie count, but it replaces this obsession with obsession over how each food choice will affect your glucose level. And most of us can’t monitor our glucose levels, so one can get even more obsessive over it without a feedback. *This banana is now going to cause a scary spike with its hidden fructose (which is even scarier than glucose), so I have to drink vinegar before eating it and then also do squats!* Sounds to me like standard triggers but repackaged.

Main takeaway: eat veggies (you will eat more of them if you eat them first), eat less processed food, have balanced meals, move more.

I really enjoyed this book! Usually anecdotes and experiments are tedious to read, but
1) the Glucose Goddess has a fun conversational writing style -- and GRAPHS! -- that make the more technical information quite accessible
2) I skimmed some of the anecdotal evidence and focused on the hack (Don't get me started on the word hack! Once we had tips and tricks, now we have hacks.)

Some reviewer question the science, but a friend has had great success with eating goods in order prescribed by the GG.

This is a book I would never have bought for myself or chosen to read. But it was gifted to me and I felt like I had to read it. Very easy to read and understand all of the information that Jessie is presenting. She did a great job of explaining the science is a very comprehensible and applicable way. I have already started using her hacks and will continue to do so! So much of the information feels like it needs to be taught in schools and should be common knowledge (but it’s not talked about!!).

Read this book twice back to back because there was a lot of information in it, which I found useful. Normally, if I plan to reread a book, I automatically give it five stars. But in this case, I’m taking off a half because I found the multiple and continuous references to her Instagram account super annoying.

Good news for me is that I was already practicing almost everything in the book, but there was still enough for me to learn that I read it twice in one sitting. (Helped that the book was short.) Hopefully, if I add some of these other practices, I’ll get my A1C under a 5 (my goal since learning I was diabetic). My last reading was a 5.4, so I’m close, but I really want to get under a 5 and also want to get off my Rx.

I usually read from the library, which I did the first time. Then I bought it to read the second time, recognizing I would probably go back to it numerous times throughout my life, that is, if by following it, I can get below that 5. 🤞🏻

Wow! I devoured this book! Absolutely fascinating to hear the science behind why sugar is the boogeyman and so many practical tips for figuring out how to flatten your glucose spikes. Got way more out of this than I was expecting.

Although this book is NOT written about managing diabetes, there were some good tips related to controlling glucose spikes.
