The book was surprisingly good. I really enjoyed it and it was not like any mystery that I had ever read. It wasn't particularly action packed, yet it was exciting. It was a bit hard to understand at times, but overall, I really enjoyed it.

This is very different from the other Tey books I've read, in that it's really not a mystery at all. It is from the point of view of a detective, but it's all about finding out what Richard III was really like and what he did, sorting the fact from the fiction. I've read a couple books about him, so this was very interesting for me, to look at him from another angle. However, I don't have a clue as to how much of the information presented is actual fact and what Tey made up. It also offers many interesting insights on history on general, how it is made and how reliable it really is.

A clever story that questions what we think we know about the story of Richard III. You should certainly be able to enjoy this without being familiar with Shakespeare's "Richard III," but will get more out of this book and the play if you read them together.

Brilliant. Weird and clever and completely unexpected. I really enjoyed all the bits of research and reading of primary sources-- definitely reminds you how hard it could be to get your hands on the material you needed before the internet. There's plenty of Tey's weird quirks here-- she's a snob, she's really anti-Scotland, and she has the strange opinion that you can conclusively say things about a person just from a picture of their face, but the book is still very good. Well worth the read for any classic mystery fan.

This is a middle of a series book but I enjoyed it out of sequence as a stand alone. A Scotland Yard policeman is laid up with a back injury in the hospital- while there he decides to try and solve the murder of the two Princes in the Tower. Was Richard III to blame or wasn't he?

Inspector Grant is in hospital with a broken leg - and is bored - but his interest is piqued by one of the books given to him. So much so that he spends his time and that of his assistant researching the murder of The Princes in the Tower and of the reign of Richard III.
As Richard III is one of my favourite rulers, and I have spent time studing the era, I really enjoyed this book.
