As far as second books in series go, I really enjoyed this one. I thought it still included a lot of world building with a focus becoming more apparent on ocean. This book added to the first book nicely while continuing what was established previously.
I enjoyed the continued growth of the characters and the surprises put in throughout this book.
Recommended for; people who liked the first book and want to hear more about the workings of the ocean

What. The. Heck. Did. I. Just. Read???

Update:
Just a cute novel with some ocean myth that follows what occurred in the first book.it definitely had more action and more ofa plot than the first. i am sure it didnt suffer from second book syndrome. To be honest, it could of ended here, there didnt need to be a third book. I definitely enjoyed how this book seemed a bit more mature, least by the end of it. the first partemma was heavy cringe.

Okay, yes I have finally finished Of Triton by Anna Banks, which took like 3 weeks. Sorry peeps, busy. ;) It is the sequel to Of Poseidon and boy do things stir up between Emma and Galen. And Emma and the whole Syrena world! This book is action packed and a has some twists and turns. And oh that sweet romance. The third book is Of Neptune, and I'll probably read that one within the next month or whenever, honestly I'm not really in a hurry. I got tons of other stuff to read. Lol. Questions?

Of Triton somewhat redeemed the first book for me. It still wasn't literary excellence, but the action and incorporation of more Syrena lore brought the story up a notch. There was also less romantic action, which I think definitely benefited the book as whole because Emma and Galen grew to be a little less dependent on one another (just a little.)

I had more motivation to read this book because it was more action-packed. I liked the underwater plot a lot more than the above-water plot. Making Nalia and Grom central characters was also beneficial. I didn't like Toraf in this book, which was a bit of a disappointment since he was one of the only ones I liked in Of Poseidon. The only characters I actually liked were Antonis and Grom.

As I said, the lore and action were what I enjoyed most about this book. And the lack of romance. If you read my first review, I am not a fan of Emma/Galen and especially not of Galen. I have a few things that I specifically disliked.

"Rayna and I watched as the four fins--our entire world--swim away from us" (78 hardcover).
This is one of my nitpick-y things. I hate it when the girl, or boy, refers to their significant other as their entire world. Their whole world should not revolve around someone else, I believe that in books and in real life.

"He doesn't like Emma and Rachel making plans together. Not because he thinks they're being devious, but because he doesn't like feeling left out"
(205). Exhibit A of why I dislike Galen. He's way too controlling.

Those were legitimate things I had issues with. I'm not sure if I'll go on to read the third book, perhaps if I come across it in the library.

Second book in the Syrena Legacy. Great book if you are interested in scifi/fantasy.

Really enjoyed this one but not sure what book 3 will be about.

A solid follow up to Of Poseidon. This time around, Galen seems way less creepy ala Edward Cullen. Now that we know Emma's Mom's secret we can slowly learn the whole backstory that allows the wonderfully, and still mostly believable happy ending, for all Syrena possible. The first one had some glaring flaws, but this one was entertaining through and through.

I planned to leave this for a while and focus on my review pile. But I made the mistake of taking a look at chapter one, which slowly led to just one more chapter, which soon turned out to be the whole book.

I was hooked, plain and simple. I have laughed, cried, smiled and cried some more. I could not finish this book fast enough, there was no way I was taking my time reading what happened next for Emma and Galen. I loved every single page of this book and now is the torturous wait to read the next instalment.

Of Triton was pretty good. I guess it helps going into a book with zero expectations. I just hate being disappointed by books. However, I wasn't really disappointed in this one.

So this is the second book in this series and thank god it didn't fall into the second book kind of slump. I just love Emma and Galen's relationship but other than that I really like Toraf and Rayan's too. Now this was fun to see Grom and Nalia's relationship because I almost forgot about them sort of being a couple since the novella. Boy did I feel bad that I forgot about them and I was so happy that those two got their happy ending!

The ending was cute and it kind of threw me off a little bit. I want to know if they are actually going to go somewhere, like the mountains, but I also have no idea what to expect in the next book or novella. I also want to see more of Rayan and Toraf's relationship - even though I know that this is about Emma and Galen.

I can't wait to read the next book in this series because I just want to finish it so badly but I also don't want to set up expectations for the rest of this series. I'm enjoying it so much that I don't want to be let down.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. I liked it. Although I liked the first book way better I would totally recommend this series to anyone. I just think Anna Banks has a way with words when it comes to talking about mermaids.
