Like all sequels, doesn’t live up to the hype of the original. Cute characters. Took far too long to get to the spice, and the story line is somewhat convoluted. Even for this genre. But still decent summer pool read.

Like many people, I went in to this book hoping to love it, expecting to love it because of how much I loved B&B. Unfortunately I was very disappointed in this story.
To start with, both characters were just meh in the beginning. So much so that the first 30% I was just zoning out completely until I realised I had no idea what was going on. I wanted to give it a fair go, as I said I wanted to love it. So I restarted it.
To be completely fair, I did like it a lot more the second time around, and there were a few moments that had me giggling.
This was going to be a 3.5 star but unfortunately the bonus chapter absolutely killed it for me. It was just so far out of left field, and it in no way felt natural to the characters as something they would do. Alas, two stars it is.

The relationships aspect was cute! The plot and the twist just felt rushed, like there wasn't enough of a build up or the details only touched on rather than explained.
Still good and worth the read

6 STARS: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I wish I could rate this book higher than five because that is what it deserves. I was blown away by just how much heart and laughter could be in this dark/gorey world Weaver has created (and TBH was a little worried the second book wouldn't live up to B&B) but I got what I have been impatiently waiting for and so much more. I loved the glimpses of Lachlan and Lark in B&B but this book just made me want to reach out and give them the biggest hugs because they were so perfect for each other from the beginning, their stories so similar, their desires for protection so fierce but it came from both of their worst traumas. I listened to the audiobook and the narrators knocked it out of the park bringing these two wonderful characters to life. Just overall a fantastic book that may end up being my book of the year. If you haven't already run and read B&B then devour this next because you will not be disappointed.
P.S. THAT BONUS CHAPTER

if i liked Sloan & Rowan then i LOVED Lark & Lachlan.
i do hate being a mood reader bc it took me so long to finally read this book. a lot of the funny parts i already saw on TikTok and i would have liked to have been able experience them the first time actually reading the book. but still entertaining. ugh, Lachlan. once he figured his shit our all bets were off on how he was going to win over Lark.
