Just okay. Not my favorite werewolf book and a little too steamy for my liking.
I first read this book when I was in junior high school and probably like 14 years old, and I adored it. One of my all time favorites. But it’s been awhile since I re-read it.
So here we have Vivian, a werewolf.
Now first off, I enjoyed the world here. Werewolves are born, and they have instincts that drive them to kill. Because of that they can be very dangerous to humans and that’s why they try to keep to themselves.
Now of course, Vivian is a teenager who has to go to school and be around all these humans so yes, it makes sense that she’s drawn to them.
But here’s where I have a problem with this book, because while I enjoy the characters and the world I found a lot of it CREEPY. When I was younger it didn’t knock me as so weird, but now…
And let’s see, Astrid is hooking up with Rafe. Astrid is 40s and Rafe is like 16.
Also, I found it interesting that The Five weren’t allowed to fight because they are under 21 but Vivian who is sixteen is allowed to fight to be mate. I mean, I we’re trying to play off the sexism that exists here as “oh it’s because they’re half wolf obviously” but I just thought it was awkward and weird.
Also, Aiden is a jackass, I hated him from the second we met him.
Ugh I don’t know what I feel about this book to be honest. It might be getting more stars than it deserves because I remember how much I enjoyed it when I was younger.

Spoiler
So Vivian at the end gets with Gabriel. Who is at least ten years older than her. Who her mom was trying to sleep with. Yeah. And let’s see, Astrid is hooking up with Rafe. Astrid is 40s and Rafe is like 16.

Gripping is the best word to describe this book and it would be a total 5-star book if it weren't for the fact that the teenage melodrama is at horrifyingly high levels.
I picked this book up when I was ten years old, in the SaveOnFoods, back when it was still Overwaitea. I remember just... absolutely devouring it. It was the first story of its kind that I'd ever read, and I was immediately hooked.
Now I'm 25. I decided to revisit this book, just for nostalgia, and I must say that I still just absolutely devoured it. I love how it's not like other werewolf stories... the werewolves in this book are very much animals. Raw, brutal, sexual... I just love it. The only real complaints I have... I feel there could have been more to the story, and it should have been an adult book instead of YA. I think it the author could have done so much more with it as an adult story.
Just a note... the movie is quite different from the novel. I had to think of them as separate entities.

I really loved this strong heroine. Vivian is as sultry as her name suggests and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to see what she would do next.
I think it's funny how the pack has such canine actions even when they are human.
I would love to see a sequel to this book, to see how the pack works after the move and to see who all actually goes with them.

Vivian is your typical gorgeous girl-oh did I forget to throw werewolf into that description? She longs for a normal life, but doesn't really fit in until she meets Aiden. He happens to be human and fascinated by magic, can Vivian trust him? Now with brutal murders happening, her families safety is threatened, which world does she belong in?
This books was so bad. I tried to finish, but could only get half way through and decided to read the last chapter. My god it was stupid and dull. No character was likeable, especially the main girl Vivian, and the writing style was so hard to get through. I read this because I watched the movie and my love for Hugh Dancy had me seeking out more. There is no comparison between the two and thank god the screen writers adapted it into a semi better story. Don't waste your time.
This book was ahead of its time in regards to the werewolf craze. It is a book about belonging and fitting into your world. Vivian isn't the most likable character, but she is a strong female in a male dominated world. She characterizes what many teens experience - the angst, insecurity, and desire for acceptance that occur no matter how beautiful one may look, or how confident one may act. I enjoyed the fact that your typical forbidden love doesn't triumph in the end in this book. I'm not sure how I feel about Vivian and Gabriel but I never bought the Adrian romance - I actual liked how that ended.
