The Slippery Slope was probably the best of the last couple ASOUE books I've read. Definitely beats the village and the hospital. Shit is getting real by the time this book rolls around. Separated orphans, an unexpected person is still alive, and stuff is burned. The stakes seem higher and the formulaic plot has disappeared, so that's good. Excited to power through the last 3 books!
Here the children finally decide to move away from villainous tactics (kidnapping, disguises, etc) to get what they want, killing my dream of them becoming super villains.

This one was fine. Love the addition of Quigley Quagmire, but just kind of a slow story. I do think the "slippery slope" the children are on to keep from becoming villainous is interesting, but almost too moral? I dunno, at some point kids should protect themselves from adults in their life in any way possible and their morality shouldn't be put into question.... I'm probably overthinking this haha

i cannot fathom that this series is coming to an end so SOON! i say this knowing there’s 13 books total within it… 😭
rating: 4.75 stars (my one complaint is the *SPOILER* survivor reveal! more in a little bit)
and yes, MORE SPOILERS AHEAD!
*:..。o○
THE REVEAL
it might just be me nitpicking but… i would’ve loved some internal struggle from the survivor before the confession.
like…. i know you knew that they thought it was their parents… so why are you ripping off the bandaid so fast Y’KNOW?
*:..。o○
THREE THINGS:
1. have the kids never seen their parents ankles? if the parents are in VFD then why is count olaf the first person they saw that had the tattoo LMAO
2. THE REDEMPTION ARC OF THE WHITE-FACED LADIES??? i knew i was rooting for them for a good reason
3. the sugar bowl. AH. (i’m watching the netflix series while reading this SO…. the sugar bowl is a VERY big deal to me.)
*:..。o○
tldr: this was amazing, beautiful, crazy, delightful, entertaining, fun, great, hilarious, inspiring, joyous, kind, lovely, memorable, not-talked-about-enough, outstanding, powerful, quirky, ravishing, sweet, thoughtful, underrated, visionary, wonderful, xylophone, yummy, zesty.

This is probably my least favorite volume of the series so far, because some of the plot points stretched far beyond believability. There were still plenty of genuine surprises, twists, and moments of clever wordplay which kept me engaged, but I have a nagging doubt now about whether this series will end strong...
