Loved this book and thoroughly enjoyed the characters. I flew this and never would have guessed it was close to 450 pages, it was such an intriguing read. I loved the idea of an American royal family; for me, it made clear how ridiculous the modern monarchy really is.

I loved the strong women in this book and how well the men complemented them. (Samantha was by far my favorite.) I even enjoyed the characters you were supposed to dislike, because they were so well-developed and relatable.

My one critique (if I had to find one) was the description/appearance of Daphne. As a redhead myself, I feel like the redheaded “villain” is SO tired. I think using the hair color as a symbol of aggression, evil-natured attitude is a stale cliche at this point.

Can’t wait to read the second in this series, and looking forward to more after that!

What a fun premise! This was something I picked up for a reading challenge, and it turned out to be another delicious brain-candy book. For an alternate history book, everything felt pretty realistic. It seems the author has done her homework on the English royal family, and she's applied it well to what that would look like the US. I enjoyed the relationships, the banter, and the drama.

I went into this book with low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. The first thing to say, is that this is less of a historical romance and more of an alternate universe. Yes, the premise is based on the Washington’s becoming the royal family of America, but there’s almost no “history” to it. One mention of the Constitution, no mention of any wars (although we are expected to believe everything in the world played out the exact same), and a glossed over mention of slavery, no mention of the civil war.

That said, this was good read. Stereotypical high school drama bolstered by politics of court. My only real complaint is the slow progression. Four POVs really detracted from the character development and because of that all the characters seem whiny for much longer than they actually are. If you enjoyed any of Kiera Cass’s books then you’ll probably like these. Easy read, good for a vacation.

Y’all this book was so wack I can’t even begin….. Might read the second one tho….

This one was fun! I tend to no longer read books classified as YA but I had seen this one around a bit with good reviews, so I thought why not give it a chance. Imagine if America was ruled by a monarchy and not a president, mix in some elements from the E! TV show The Royals (albeit, cleaner content), and this is what you get. Despite its page count it's a quick read. It's fun, a little over the top (they are royals, after all), intriguing, a tad scandalous, with some family drama thrown in too. I look forward to finding out where McGee takes this series when the second book comes out. I liked that the characters didn't feel superficial and that there was a depth that grew to each of them as the story went along, making their relationships with one another a bit more complex. I hope to continue to see more character development as the series progresses. Will definitely be waiting for book #2!
