Pretty great read! I enjoy fast paced books, and this one was no disappointment. It's inclusive, thought provoking, and thrilling. It held my attention from start to finish.
The only problem was that some of the deaths in the book are a bit unrealistic, but other than that, I'd definitely recommend this one.

This book was very tense the whole way through. It was not even in the vicinity of fucking around. The interactions between like the politics of the setting and the characters themselves as well as the time the book is set do some really interesting things. Uhhhhh additionally the vibe of like
what do you mean I'm autistic, I'm just an unsocialized dog
absolutely took me tf out.

Holy crap. This book was so good I literally could not out it down. I even brought it to the bathroom with me.

It’s dark and awful, and hopeful all at the same time. Could not recommend more.

And the main character’s dog is a Black Mouth Cur!!! The best dogs in the world!

This author doesn't miss. That was the most tense book l've read in a WHILE. Thank god it has a good ending, all the books I've read by this guy do but god he really has to run you through the ringer every time. All gas no brakes, read it in maybe eight or nine hours total because I couldn't put it down because there are NO GOOD STOPPING POINTS. This book had me stressing. The first night I read it from 1-7 am!
The autistic rep (main) was great and he is aromantic and gets in a qpr too(end of book)! Also trans (main) and nonbinary rep. Lots of content warnings for gore (and more).

I generally liked this book. The real strength of it was the representation (the MC being trans, working class from Appalachia, and autistic were the main focus, but he was also aro-spec and
became disfigured
, and the cast of side characters was also pretty diverse). I did like the way that working class issues in Appalachia were talked about. It was never particularly subtle, so know that going in, but I think it works especially well as an intro to these topics that probably not a lot of teens are familiar with.

I'm reading this for an online bookclub, so I'm excited to see where discussion will go with this!

Less Appalachian-horror and more intergenerational blood fueds - transcestors and kind of coming-of-age?? Really moving. If you're looking for representation of autism, trans masc coming-out, unapologetically fat, non-binary friends, aromantic discovery... you'll find that here. Mind the content warnings.
