i don’t even know how i managed to get through this book when i read this a few years back. little star is an insane, psychological thriller which spirals around the story of two girls: theres and teresa. i really liked the beginning and the whole mystery, suspenseful mood. a mysterious baby dumped in the chilly woods with a pitch-perfect voice? interesting. theres, jerry, lennart and laila’s story pulled me in deeply, i enjoyed reading up on the backstories of each individual character. but i eventually found it slightly irrelevant when the storyline turned out to not be a linear one which was quite a bummer.
contrary to popular belief, i enjoyed teresa’s story much more as compared to theres’ one. this was a far more cruel and realistic story, it really delved deeply onto how a once perfectly normal girl turned into a quiet, murdering lone wolf that was created and shaped by the world. the amount of grisly, gory details and the eventual formation of the pack of wolves are wonderful, the parts of torture is excellent. top notch descriptions. not to mention, an epic ending.
a part of me feels like rating it a 3 star despite of everything i’ve written, i just felt some parts could have been shaped better and some parts should have just been removed. but for now, 4 stars because of teresa’s part.

I gave this a lot of stars because I was intrigued and went through it pretty fast. But I hated the end, hate the idea of these sad lonely girls not getting comeuppance just because they had it hard. I saw myself in them but like...I don't want to just kill people lmao. I was like who am I even rooting for here...I hate all these people. The only consolation is Jerry and Paris got to be together lol. Teresa, you was weak and you stay weak but thinking you were strong.

I love Lindqvist's work but after the disappointment of [b:Harbour|13603450|Harbour|John Ajvide Lindqvist|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1334517180s/13603450.jpg|5834594] I wasn't sure about this one. No matter, I've read all his stuff so far so I shall read this too. And I loved it. Not as good as [b:Let the Right One in|5181655|Let the Right One in|John Ajvide Lindqvist|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1327269227s/5181655.jpg|928338] but still good. This would have to be my second favourite so far (after let the right one in of course). I loved having the story from the points of view of both Theres and Teresa. And Theres is such a tragic character. I wish that it was explained how she ended up buried alive in the forest but that and the fact the last bit of the book was a little repeative are the only problems I had with this story.

I really should have liked this. I love horror books that explore the dark and vicious corners of female experience. I loved all the previous Lindqvist books I read.
But I struggled with this one. I kept putting it down and reading other books.
My main problems with it were these:
- Lindqvist works very hard to capture the thoughts and experiences of outcast girls, and mostly does well, but at the most important times it doesn't ring true.
- The writing was much more clumsy than I have come to expect. It may have been a poor translation. But there was far too much telling and repetition for my tastes.
I still finished it, but I thought it could have been better.

I really really like the writing, but the improbabilities become too hard to overlook. The linchpin of the whole story is that the real Tora never hears about someone using her name on IDOL. Pretty much blows it wide open. Throw that aside and you have a good book. Sigh.
I enjoy Lindqvist's writing style, but the story line was severely lacking here for me. The first half or so of the novel was great - captivating, eerie, unsettling, everything you'd expect. But once the story developed, it lost its focus and meandered between multiple angsty teenage characters with little to no point. I'm not sure what Lindqvist was trying to get across in the latter half of the book and the constant violence became tiring and lost its impact. All in all, this book just didn't do it for me.
