Wow Aiken has written another Dragon Kin book that will have you laughing out loud and silently cheering.

This book is the story of Rhona and Vigholf who do have a great romance and manage to heat things up in the middle of the battlefield. But more than just them you get to follow all the other characters that you have fallen in love with over the series. Annwyl the bloody is still getting very bloody, Keita is still secretive, Izzy is still young and figuring out life, so many more that you will want to read this to get up to date on everyone’s life.

Heroic acts are undertaken, lovers reunited, and gods intervening. What is not to love! If you haven’t started this series you are missing out, it is best to start with number one but Aiken does a great job of filling in the blanks in every book so you will not feel lost.

There were definitely the fun family parts to this book but the main couple were just part of the overall story which main involved the war with the Iron Dragons and the battle happening on two fronts and the third happening at the castle where the Anwyl's twins are. So the main characters are going after Anwyl into the heart on the Iron's while we are constantly going from front to front to castle and back to the main couple.

Although I really liked the furthering of the family's story, and I liked (not loved) the main characters relationship, the battle scenes and the constant change of place was a little dizzying.

I didn't love the main characters because the heroine showed no real interested in the hero at first. She was also totally oblivious of his suit until he not only spelled it out for her, but knocked her over the head with it. He definitely had it for her, but she was not interested until he made his position clear. Then, although it was sweet and slow, it just wasn't high chemistry. Still I came to like both the characters.

This is such a fun series. While it is a paranormal romance, I would still recommend reading the series in order, as the overall story arc is very much needed. I’m not sure that you would be completely lost, but I think you would better understand everything that is going on with the war, the children, the blood queen and the Cadwaladr family.

This book takes place several years after the previous book. The dragons have been at war for years. Many haven’t seen their mates that entire time. Others have seen them, but not as often as they would like. The war is taking place on many sides. First the Southland and Northland dragons are fighting the Iron Dragons and then there are the people who are trying to take out the children.

It starts off with Rhona the Fearless, aka the Babysitter, being sent back home to guard her royal cousin, Keita the Viper and Ren the Chosen and the Foreigner, back to Dark Plains to help save the children. Rhona always follows orders, but she is very concerned that her mother will think she is abandoning the war, since this is a secret mission. Rhona has never wanted to Dragonwarrior like the rest of her family, which really shames her mother. She likes just being who she is, a soldier.

Vigholf the Abhorrent, who has had a thing for Rhona since he first saw her, can’t let her go back on her own. He feels he must protect her. Coming from the Northlands, he just has a hard time with women fighting in battle. He still lives with the fact that his people, including his own father, would still female dragons from the south, cut off a wing so that they couldn’t left and force them to be their mates. Even though this is no longer practiced, it is still something that the Northland dragons still have hanging over them. Add that to the fact that they think women are lesser in battle and the Southland dragon women are not fans, especially the Cadwaladrs.

After they get the cousin back to help the children, who are very scary at this point, they are then off another mission, because the Annywl the Bloody has left her troops and taken her young squire Izzy and another young dragon with her. Vigholf and Rhona must go find the crazy queen, who lives up to her name of both crazy and bloody.

Once again, this is a series that is filled with humor, action, fantasy and DRAGONS. Rhona is one of the tamer of the Cadwaladrs, actually she might be the tamest one I’ve read about. Maybe because she isn’t one of the royals, but a cousin that is part of the royal family. It was still a great story. There was some sadness in this story.

Vigholf stood “All right. I will. But at least make it worth it for me, Rhona.”
“Make it worth it?”
“Don’t tease, female. Tell me you love me.”
“I’ll do better than that. I told me mum I love you. My mother. Bradana the Mutilator who has the horse of several Lightnings decorating her armor.”
He grinned and they headed toward the troops to help those leaving with them in the next few hours to get ready. “And what did she say to you?” Because he already knew what Bradana had to say to him.
“I don’t really know”
“So you ran away.”
“Not at all. I walked away…with a purpose.”
“Oh, well…that makes all the difference.”

Onward in my quest to devour the Dragon Kin series. This is book 5 in the series and features Rhona the Fearless from the Cadwaladr clan and Vigholf the Abhorrent from the Northlander's Lightnings.

The Lightnings have also kind of worshipped their females, so fighting this war with the Cadwaladr females has been kind of hard for them. Vigholf has this overwhelming urge to protect "the Babysitter" Rhona. Needless to say, he irritates her to no end. When he accompanies her on an assignment, she is sure he is going to drive her nuts.

Their banter is a lot of fun, and seeing Rhona come out of her shell and become her own person versus always looking after her siblings was nice. The adventure they find themselves in with Annwyl, Izzy and Branwyn was fast paced and adrenaline filled. These females really can kick ass. And this includes the human females taking on dragons. So cool!

The story in The Dragon Who Loved Me was really good. What disappointed me was the change in narrator. I was used to Hollie Jackson's take on all the characters, then we switch off to Morgan Hallett who not only did accents differently for the characters, but she also pronounced character's names differently which threw me totally off guard. I spent the first little while trying to figure out who she was talking about. It was really frustrating for me. I hope I grow used to her narration because I see she does the whole rest of the series.

The characters are so fun. I love the chaos and adventure in each installment. I am so glad I picked up this series! This review was originally posted on Rantings of a Reading Addict

I'd forgotten how much I liked this series. Lots of laugh out loud moments and I did tear up when people were reunited after the war. Now to wait for the next one.

Loved. Loved. Loved. Loved this book!

I mean, c'mon how can you not love a book where there are characters named: Annwyl, The Bloody or Brandana the Mutilator or Vigholf the Abhorrent ... and those are the good guys?

First thing, this is not a 'start here' book. Too much plot and character history has happened in the previous four books to make jumping in here comfortable. You NEED to read the previous books. You have to get to know all the dragons and their politics and their family connections and their personalities. You need to meet the humans (some of whom are more dangerous than the dragons *cough*Annwyl*cough*). You need to understand the background behind the long protracted war where this book jumps five years ahead into. You need to at least meet, if not understand, the motivations of the interfering Gods. And you just have to sit back and watch with a little trepidation the growth of the creepily awesome toddlers. Yes, I said toddlers. Even the pre-school set in this book are hella ferocious! Heck just Annwyl alone is worth the price of this entire series.

But in the event you have read the previous four books then this one will welcome you right in. It follows he romance of Rhona, one of the crazy-evil-ferocious Cadwaladr cousins who is content to be nothing more than a soldier, and Vigholf the Abhorrent, a Lightning dragon (they don't spew flame, they bring lightning). A long protracted war has been raging between the Fire-dragons and the Iron-dragons. And there is a bounty on the heads of the 3 young children who are thought to be abominations. But since 2 of those kids are Annwyl's she is sick and tired of war and seeks to end it. So she sets off with just Izzy & Brenna as companions to do just that.

Her leaving is disastrous for the morale of southern armies and Rhona and Vigholf are dispatched to bring her back. On the road the two fight, bicker and fall in love.

As it is probably already evident in this review, the real strength of this story isn't necessarily in the A-romance plot. Rhona and Vigholf are a great couple and they have chemistry and Aiken does create a sexy, satisfying romance for them. But in reality, that alone would not have earned a five-star for me. No, the fab-ness of this book lies on the continuing story arc of the Annwyl, Fearghus (the Destroyer), Briec (the Mighty), Talaith and all the rest of the siblings/family of the fire dragons that kicked off in the first book. It has deepened and gotten richer and i have become completely obsessed with this group.

The book also bears Aiken's tradermark wacky humor. It is funny. But it is also a great story that doesn't devolve into slapstick and still manages to be poignant, dramatic, bloody, terrible and fierce.

And I am loving where she is going with Izzy (the Dangerous) and Eibhear (the Blue). That is a romance that has been brewing for 3 books now and she is making them grow up and grow into themselves in a way that is wonderful to watch.

Highly recommend!

Series: Dragon Kin #5
Rating: 5 stars - I loved it!

For not remembering this couple I really enjoyed this book. Rhona the Fearless was a kickass female who is always taking care of everyone, hence the nickname Babysitter. Vigholf the Abhorrent was a always hungry, stubborn Northlander, who was always trying to protect the women. I really liked him. He instantly wanted Rhona but knew he had to woo her to get anywhere, unfortunately she doesn’t understand subtle things like that and just thought he was annoying for years. These two were perfect for each other.

After five years, the war with the Iron’s comes to an end. The battle was action packed, bloody, and emotional, especially with Éibhear. It was very interesting seeing the other race of dragons and how they differ from the Fire and Lightnings. I can’t wait to see more of them in the future, especially Giaus and Aggrippa.

Annwyl was so fierce but also a little broken in this one. The five years of fighting have taken a toll on her body but mostly her mind. She misses her twins, Fearghus, and home. But the biggest issue is that she needs to sleep. I liked that even though she is a very strong and capable female she can still show her vulnerability, especially at the end when she finally sees her kids again. She is still my favorite because of how crazy and caring she is.

I can’t wait to see what will come of the new alliance with the Irons.
