A strange but exciting introduction to a new series. Loved it and could not stop laughing at moments that were needed to lighten the intensity of the rest of the story. Looking forward to the next one already. Full review coming soon to the blog.

I was going to give this 3.5 but then couldn’t really think of a reason why to not give this a 4.

Oh the start of a new romantic suspense series! I was riveted by Poppa and Malcolm 's story! They both are broken yet tough. The resilience of these characters appealed to me. I'm anxiously awaiting the rest of the series as we got to know several of Malcolm 's fellow agents.

This is a little like an agency for almost washed up agents, but their stories are mysterious and compelling!

I can definitely say that I could have never guessed the trouble that Pippa was in when I started this book. No wonder she is living off the grid, in a safe house, and slightly terrified of all human beings. Enter handsome Malcolm as her new neighbor and she is torn between wanting to know him for his good looks and company he could bring and the threat that would burst her safety bubble. Hidden was filled with some absolutely wonderful characters and some absolutely sleazy ones as well.

Joining Pippa and Mal in the “wonderful characters” category are Angus, Roscoe (Angus’ quirky dog), Wolfe, and Kat (Wolfe’s new found kitten that stays in his pocket.) These four brought some light into the darkness that Pippa and Mal face throughout the book.

I enjoyed this band of misfit gathering together all of their special talents and using them to make the world a safer place. They are like a super government agency force that is kept secret and hidden in plain sight.

I did, not surprisingly, hate Isaac. Everything about him made my skin crawl. I hated his use of religion as a means to get what he wants – he is one of the sleazy characters mentioned above.
Hidden was a quick and entertaining read and I am excited to see where the rest of this series and characters go. I can't wait to read Raider and Wolfe's story.

Pippa has spent 5 years living a quiet life, attempting to hide from the world. A new neighbor has her thinking about coming out of her shell but is she ready to trust? Malcolm has just finished a very difficult undercover assignment and is ready for retirement. Finding the house next to Pippa's was exactly what he needed for that quiet life except he didn't find this place by chance. Pulled in to a new assignment Malcolm needs to get closer to Pippa to discover what she may or may not know, and if there's anyone she's trying to protect. As they grow closer Pippa slowly opens up to Malcolm about her past. But with danger coming quickly can they actual trust each other when what they've been hiding can destroy any chance they had at a future? Really loved the start to the Deep Ops series with some great secondary characters (and animals) that add a lot of humor to the story. Excited to continue the series!

Pippa is running from something in her past. I felt sorry for her, I would have run too. Ugh her mother is all I am saying! Worst mother of the year. So she stays mostly indoors, has one friend and then one day a sexy guy moves into the house next door.

Malcolm, Malcolm, yes he likes Pippa from the start, but the lies man, the lies! And again, totally understandable. He needs lies. It is his job. But he is a good guy that just wants to protect the weak.

I want to say more, but, ok so the thing does come up quickly, but I still do not want to talk about it. It has a better feel if one does not know why she hides or what he is doing. But I liked it. It was creepy. A running from worthy.

They get close. She wants to be normal, he falls in love. But the secrets, the secrets! And then there is drama and suspense too as the lies are catching up and baddies are coming.

I enjoyed it. A nice amount of romance and suspense.

Narration
I actually liked the voice for another guy better than the main. The main was ok, but it was just so manly and rough. Ha. He was such a male.

But yes as you can see the voices were distinct and I liked that. I knew where I had everyone. He did the drama, romance and suspense well too.

I enjoyed the development of the group and seeing their personalities start to show.
I look forward to seeing more of the Deep Ops crew get their story.

It seemed like this book was trying to do a lot of different things, and only did a couple of them well. The erotic scenes between Malcolm and Pippa were good, but that's about it. The rest of the elements, from the mystery/thriller aspects to the contrived story elements to the actual character development were all a little too lacking for my tastes. Malcom felt like a typical bad boy, and Pippa felt like a cliched version of a recluse with a collection of quirks rather than someone who truly suffered from some kind of disorder.

Overall, I was hoping for a fast-paced thriller full of sensuality, but instead it was more of a collection of loosely-framed sexual encounters that, while entertaining to read, really didn't connect on a deeper level. I don't think I'll be continuing on in the series.

It was fine. Sex was pretty good! But also, a lot of characters, which I never like.
