I thought I saw the twist coming at the end of this novel, and then I actually shouted “no” out loud in my kitchen as I was cooking when I realized what was really happening 🤣 The best/worst part is that I could have seen it coming, if only I had fully used my little grey cells as Hercule Poirot did. I feel like this book needs more hype like some other Christie novels. I devoured it, and it may be my favorite twist so far.

i don’t think i will ever figure out an agatha christie novel & i prefer it that way. my favourite part of a poirot novel will always be how he reads hastings for absolute filth every chance he gets lmao

Probably one of my favourite Poirot's so far! The ending is very satisfying and I couldn't really guess the outcome so was surprised by the explanation. Enjoyed the slightly different take on the murder mystery with the tension being around attempts of murder rather than an outright murder at the start. Tension is built superbly. The banter between Hastings and Poirot is at its best here.

3.5/5
Once again, a brilliant Christie novel that would’ve been 10x more brilliant if she had just cut out some of the fluff.

There are some aspects of the book that feel so useless, and characters who serve no purpose whatsoever in the narrative.

If the setup and red herrings of this novel had been nearly as clever as the final reveal, it easily could’ve been one of the best Christie’s.

Well, I tried but I am just not a fan of mysteries. I love the John Mortimer character, Horace Rumpole, but my love of mystery seems to end there. I will not overly criticize the book because I think that it is just not my cup of tea.

My favorite Hercule Poirot book so far!
