slow-paced

Very slow beginning the book is VERY boring but i kinda likr it idk

Melanie and Evan were a cute couple. It took a little time for me to warm up to Evan since he wasn’t very nice to her for a decent chunk of the book. But at least we learned why he was like that. Also felt the insta-love was a bit much, but it’s very prevalent in romance novels nowadays so what can you do?

connection
The main characters have zero reason to be together, and their emotional attraction comes out of nowhere. Without spoiling, the minute they began to show attraction was the minute they began to confess genuine feelings. That was too early for the readers and story development. They hated each other (for no reason, might I add), and now we have to believe it was all a misunderstanding.

characters
The side characters and dynamics were super touching. Aside from the main character and sometimes the main romantic interest, everyone felt cute and cozy. I loved the incorporation of grief and how it divides and damages relationships. However, I must admit that it felt very obviously done to write this book off as "deeper than other romances." Because of this, I didn't connect to the duologues' much-surrounding grief.

the main character
what was that inner monologue... I'm glad I listened to this as an audiobook because I can't imagine the level of cringe I'd have reading some of her thoughts.

last thoughts:
boston isn't a city like NYC or anything the author paints it to be. It's in between a city and town.
the beauty of romance is that no matter how bad it is, it will always be semi-pleasant to read.
This is the first book I've read where the publishers could have been printed straight from Wattpad. Not necessarily a dig but just interesting writing

fake dating in a small coastal fishing town it’s obviously five stars from me dawg

The slow burn wasn’t thrilling enough for me. I didn’t really care if they got together or not their chemistry was not coming off the page like I wanted it to. Then al of the sudden they were an actual couple and it all just felt rushed.

I am not usually a fan of InstaLove, but this book was really sweet!

This book concludes the Influencers series, but you can read it without having read the others (although you should!). I really liked that it dove a bit into themes of grief and loss as well as responsibility and feeling as though you have to be the caretaker. I took on that role for YEARS and the burden it leaves you with is hard to explain. Melanie lives this and surrounds herself with superficial things to not let anyone in. One week with the Whaler family, though, and she realizes just how much she's been holding herself back from.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!
