The plot and universe fell a bit flat for me along with the ending which felt a bit too rushed

This one did not click with me. There were too many things about the story that I found completely unbelievable:
  • The book is set 200 years in the future, but the characters are very familiar with our current media, technology, and customs. This is a huge pet peeve of mine in sci-fi. I just don't buy it.
  • People from other planets are Mercurian or Marsian, but Koreans are always Korean, never Earthian. Future Earth is Korea-centric in a way that doesn't really make sense and isn't explained.
  • In fact, very little is explained at all. We know so little about everyone and everything. Even the great mystery of the book is explained with a single sentence.
  • Instead, the author focuses on feelings. Everyone is so in-tune with each other's emotions, all of the time. The amount of body-language reading, glancing, and barely perceptible touching that happens in these pages is truly off-the-charts.

hm. this has a really rich and interesting world but…. it is a little all over the place . It’s a very slow start introducing you to the characters and world to the point where I thought the whole thing would just be slow and character focused, but then suddenly there’s this fast actiony plot - which feels undeveloped and unresolved?
There's some cool side characters but they also feel a bit underdeveloped. There's a bit of a m/f romance and m/m one - I didn't super care for the former and the latter is very brief (and....how much do I care about this rich guy lmao?) There's some good central platonic relationships too, but again I didn't get a ton from them.

I do think there was a lot of potential in this, it just ultimately fell a bit flat for me which is a shame!

It did take me a while to really get into this book, but then I read the second half in an afternoon. The physics of the ships doesn't make sense, so if you want hard SF that way, skip this, but the relationships and characters are really well written.
