Now some of its because it turns out I just dont like the tropes. But the bigger thing was that except for the leads, no one seemed to talk like a regular person and that got really weird. Like they were just cardboard cut outs of what was needed for a scene.

I liked this book and Walker and Fin’s story but I don’t know if it was the kinks or what but it wasn’t my favorite book that being said I’m only 1 person and everyone has different tastes so this might be a book you love, so if the description sounds good give it a chance

There were lots of things that bothered me here, ranging from writing to story.
  • The writing isn’t great. The characters frequently talk to themselves, which feels like a very lazy way to communicate information to readers. I also was never really sure what the POV is?? Is it dual and messy in flipping back and forth? Is it omniscient? Unsure. Don’t care anymore.
  • I think I’m too anti-capitalist for billionaire romances. The staff basically have no lives outside of working for this billionaire. Fin works 12 hour days, every day, and gets every other weekend off — which I think he’s supposed to be grateful for?? This poor man basically has like 10 hours at home to have a life, sleep, and relax. The butler lives in the house, and when we see his room, he has like one half empty bookshelf of belongings which is just… so depressing.
  • In the beginning of the book, we see Fin with his roommate and learn a lot of about his brother and his brother’s roommate, so I assumed they’d be prominent characters in the book. But once Fin was settled into the job, they basically disappeared. (I’m dnf’ing at 54%, so they might come back, idk).
  • I felt zero connection between the mcs at 54%. There was some good teasing and praising and stuff before the 30% mark, but then it completely dried up. At 54% I just couldn’t bring myself to care enough to finish
  • There’s so much going on in this book. It tries to tackle grief (sloppily, from what I’ve seen). There’s lots of child raising tips. There’s the kids. There’s Fin’s brother starting his own agency (which that plot line seems to have dropped off entirely). The MCs having any kind of intimacy gets shoved to the background.  I can’t even remember what else there was, but there was more
  • Honestly I just got so damn bored.

If you want a good rich single dad x his kid’s “caregiver-esque” person, read Teacher of the Year by MA Wardell.

I tried really hard to like this book. The beginning was very good and I enjoyed the dynamics of the MCs as they were testing the waters of each other. However, I didn’t really feel much connection between the MCs once they actually started getting together.

There was too much going on in this book. Walker getting over his grief with Connor and Walker learning how to interact with his children took up so much of the conversation that the romance and intimacy of the MCs wasn’t really there. Outside of the first encounter where Walker got off on the panties and Fin saw Walker working out shirtless, nothing really connected with me.

Fin just seemed like a super human that could do no wrong and knew how to navigate every situation perfectly. He didn’t seem like a real character at all. We so often only saw Walker in the household bubble that he just felt like a bumbling adolescent and not this intimidating Wall Street exec that he’s supposed to be.

Let’s not even start with the ridiculous class differences of the two MCs and how Walker reacted after the walk in the park. However, Fin had no backbone and immediately caved to Walker for sex.

Also, wtf was that section describing how Walker makes his money (helping the guy hide money from his wife and kids)? We’re just supposed to be okay with that and say, oh that’s just the rich doing rich people things? What a scudsball.
