Some books are like going home. After recently watching the movie version of the novel, I realized I hadn't read it in a long time. Th fact that I love this novel is amazing. Usually if it's not Little House on the Prairie, I'm not interested in a novel set in pioneer/early settler situations.
But, Marty and Clark get me every time. I'm a sucker for a good love story, and this is one of my favorites.
This was the perfect cozy winter re-read.

Honestly I was surprised when I realized I’ve had yet to read the Love Comes Softly series. I’m a big fan of the Hallmark movies as well as the author. I know I’ve started this book many times but just never got around to finishing it. Well I finally got around to it.
Love Come Softy was the first book published by Janette Oke. It’s a well written story about 19 year old Marty who agrees to marry Clark Davis after her husband ends up dead durn their travels West. While the backwoods dialogue can get tiring I found I enjoyed this more then the movie. There’s definitely more here story wise then there was In the movie.
This was a short and enjoyable read. So enjoyable that I couldn’t put it down. I’m looking forward to continuing on with this series. If you’re look for a good historical fiction book that’s not too long I definitely recommend this. Though I will warn you if you’re not into Christian fiction you may not like this as it can get preachy.

This book was a good solid read. It has suspenseful and emotional parts. I especially liked seeing Marty come to faith. It wasn't one of my top reads, but I still enjoyed it. Also no spice as always with Janette Oke books.

- No spice: there is a kiss at the end of the book but it is bref and does not go into detail. It is also between a married couple (technically).

This book was never checked-in at my last library, and I only just discovered that it’s shelved with the paperbacks up front at this library. That’s my excuse for not reading this book ’til now. I hear it’s, like, the epitome of Christian historical romance, and those are definitely genres I read. (Well, not romance without the other adjectives … no shirtless guys on the front covers, please.)
The author doesn’t waste any time jump-starting her story, and instantly I was sucked in to the novel. I read all day long (so much for grocery shopping!), loving the simple, beautiful descriptions of daily life on the frontier. My only complaint is that there’s not enough romance. (Did I just admit to that?) No, seriously; with these novels, you kinda know where the storyline’s going — but it doesn’t get there until, like, the very last page. I suppose it’s better than them getting together too early and then having to create trivial, artificial conflict between them — I’ve definitely read romances like that before (yuck).
Lucky for me, there’s a sequel (or several sequels) — so I’m sure I’ll get more than my fill of sappiness. I’ve already started the second book, and the first few pages make up for all the gooey feelings missing from the first book. Hopefully I make it all the way through. ;-)

In a mission to purge my bookshelves, I am rereading all the books that have just been gathering dust. Will it make the cut?
I enjoyed the story in this book, but the writing tripped me up a few times. The story is well written, but the dialogue was trying way to hard to sound "pioneer." For me, this was distracting.
Enjoyable, but not world-changing or anything. This one will go in the "sell" box for me, but I am glad I reread it first.

This was cheesy and I did not feel smarter after reading it. However it was clean and sweet, a Hallmark movie in a book. I am on the fence about reading the whole series, that's like binge watching Hallmark Christmas movies, you can only do it once per year and Christmas was just three days ago, so...
