The Lucky Escape started out a bit slow but once it got started I really enjoyed it!

Annie and Alexander are supposed to get married but when Annie shows up to the church her wedding planner tells her that Alexander texted her saying he wasn’t going to be there. Her ex in-laws insist she still on on their honeymoon. And when a friend from the past joins her on the trip of the lifetime everything changes.

I loved watching Annie grow from the heartbreak to being a strong person who lives life to the fullest in and in the moment. And doing the things that make her happy.

Thanks to Netgalley and Avon for a copy of The Lucky Escape for an honest review

The Lucky Escape was a lovely change of pace for me. It is part romantic comedy and part journey of self-discovery.

Annie finds herself left at the alter by her university sweetheart. Of course, as you would except Annie starts to question who is she is/has become. Shortly after the failed wedding, Annie finds herself at a bootcamp where she meets Patrick. Patrick and Annie knew each other twenty years ago and since then Annie has completely lost herself and become what others expect of her. It is around the same time that Annie's ex-future in-laws encourage her to take the honeymoon. Annie and Patrick agree to go together and that is where the fun begins...

I loved the journey that Annie and Patrick went on for their non-honeymoon to Australia. There were some wonderful laughs (I couldn't stop laughing at the part with the day-spa...no spoilers here, you will have to read to find out what happens). It is evident that Patrick really likes Annie, but something is holding him back. As their trip progresses they start to get to know each other more and build trust.

At times, I found myself getting a little lost and re-reading passages to process them but it didn't take away from the story. I love how Annie starts to focus on where she changed and how to make her life better. She learns to say no and ask for what she wants, instead of trying to please everyone else constantly.

Overall, this was a fun read for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you're looking for a nice change of pace in a book, I definitely recommend The Lucky Escape. Thank you to HarperCollins for gifting me a copy of this book.

This was a good one!

The third act conflict definitely frustrated me and I was actually fuming at one point but Annie pulled her shit together and hot her head out of her ass.

This walked the wonderful line between woman’s fiction and romance and did it well.

3.5 rounded up to a 4. :)

This was a funny book to read. I loved Annie, how she finally wasn’t afraid of being herself and was happier because of it.

A lot of people wished the honeymoon part had come sooner but I actually enjoyed seeing Annie heartbroken, learning that part of her and seeing it and her deciding to say fuck it and go and try I nice time because she deserves it. I honestly think that was an important part for us to understand her character better. I do think the author put off them getting together for too long since it was kind of frustrating.

I will say the book is too long, it felt kind of dragged out at times and I do wish we could have had more cute non-honeymoon stuff. When they go back to England is when it felt slow for me but I really did like the book and recommend it for a fast, easy and funny summer read.

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the arc.

*Thanks to Avon Books UK + NetGalley for the ARC!*

I skimmed this one. The blurb seemed predictable, but that doesn't mean it won't be the best version of the concept you've ever read, so that never stops me from picking up (or in this case, requesting!) a book. It just wasn't for me in this case. Meh.

Annie Wiig was left at the alter. This book explores the aftermath of this, while she goes on a journey of self discovery and meets up with someone in her past, Patrick. Annie seems to have a lot if issues with self worth, knowing her place and many things that women have in society today. After some convincing from Patrick, she goes on her paid for, honeymoon with him. I expected with this premise there would be some romance, and some comedy, but what I got was a journey of self discovery and self love. That does not make this a bad book, it just makes it different. The book seemed to have three parts to it: being left at the alter, going on the honeymoon and after the honeymoon.

This was a book I neither loved or hated, it was right in the middle of the road for me. First the good:

Annie has some great strong friendships, including the Core Four and her work friend, Adzo, felt real to me. She also had a great relationship with her much younger sister, Freddie, which is reminiscent of the relationship I had with my sister. All these women in her life gave good advice.

I also loved reading about the travel to Australia. The way the author wrote about it made it feel real and renewed my interest to travel their some day!

Now the less good:

I struggled connecting with Annie, likely because of her lack of direction in her life. That lack of connection made it harder for me to connect with and care what the outcome of the book was.

Another problem I had with this book was the diet and skinniness talk. Know that it exists and it can be triggering for some. There wasn't extensive talk about it, but there was at different points in the book.

Overall this was a middle of the road book for me. I received a copy of this from NetGalley and the publisher for an open and honest review. All opinions are 100% mine.
