Annie Wiig was left at the alter. This book explores the aftermath of this, while she goes on a journey of self discovery and meets up with someone in her past, Patrick. Annie seems to have a lot if issues with self worth, knowing her place and many things that women have in society today. After some convincing from Patrick, she goes on her paid for, honeymoon with him. I expected with this premise there would be some romance, and some comedy, but what I got was a journey of self discovery and self love. That does not make this a bad book, it just makes it different. The book seemed to have three parts to it: being left at the alter, going on the honeymoon and after the honeymoon.

This was a book I neither loved or hated, it was right in the middle of the road for me. First the good:

Annie has some great strong friendships, including the Core Four and her work friend, Adzo, felt real to me. She also had a great relationship with her much younger sister, Freddie, which is reminiscent of the relationship I had with my sister. All these women in her life gave good advice.

I also loved reading about the travel to Australia. The way the author wrote about it made it feel real and renewed my interest to travel their some day!

Now the less good:

I struggled connecting with Annie, likely because of her lack of direction in her life. That lack of connection made it harder for me to connect with and care what the outcome of the book was.

Another problem I had with this book was the diet and skinniness talk. Know that it exists and it can be triggering for some. There wasn't extensive talk about it, but there was at different points in the book.

Overall this was a middle of the road book for me. I received a copy of this from NetGalley and the publisher for an open and honest review. All opinions are 100% mine.

This book was adorable and I loved every minute. It had all the right things for me, and slightly reminded me of the Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren which is one of my all time favourite books! This one is well written, a tiny bit predictable, but overall a really enjoyable read. The perfect book when you're in the mood for something light and fluffy!

Annie is about to marry her university sweetheart, Alexander, when tragedy strikes - he abandons her on their wedding day. Distraught and embarrassed, Annie tries to get on with life, signing up for an exercise club and bumping into an old friend from her drama club days. When her (not) in-laws tell her to take the fully paid for honeymoon, she jumps at the chance for the escape of a lifetime in Australia, and brings friend Patrick along for the ride!

The Lucky Escape was a bubbly, fun novel filled with the perfect summer reading vibe. Annie is a relatable character, with insecurities and self doubt that she learns to put aside to put herself first. It has a great balance between romance, comedy and more serious character developments and stories. I loved the parts during the un-honeymoon, and more than anything loved the initial friendship between Patrick and Annie, with his caring and thoughtful nature helping her to develop and heal from her issues.

The surrounding characters gave this further depth; Annie's little sister was a great addition, although sometimes her dialogue felt a little too unrealistic. The same goes for the main characters, particularly during sex scenes - some lines just sounded a bit wonky. This is the main reason I didn't rate 5 stars.

Overall, this novel is some easy escapism, and would be perfect for a beach holiday (if we ever get to go on them again!). The storyline is fresh and cute and will make you smile and laugh in equal amounts. If you're a fan of a bubbly rom-com with feminist undertones, this book will be for you!

*Big thanks to the team at Avon for sending me this ARC copy in return for my honest review.*

Although I did overall like this book I struggled to stay engaged in it.

This is an enjoyable relatively light heated story about Annie who gets left at the altar and her old friend Patrick that she bumps into in the aftermath of her failed wedding. Annie and Patrick head off on her once in a lifetime honeymoon to Australia together and there are no prizes for guessing what happens next.

There are a few other little turns along the way but there are no big surprises in this book. For me it lacked some of the magic of LJW's other books but it is still a well written and easy book to dip in an out of. If you're looking for a solid romance story this will do the job.

I got The Lucky Escape by Laura Jane Williams from NetGalley for a fair and honest review

The Lucky Escape is told through the point of view of Annie Wiig a woman in her thirties, who is left on her wedding day by Alexander the boyfriend she was with since university.
Having been given the honeymoon tickets by the people who would have been her in-laws, as a form of apology.
Annie decides to take the trip with Patrick an old friend who she had not seen since she was 14 and reminded. Annie of what she was like then.
This is one of those stories that was a real pleasure to read, as Annie must first deal with the aftereffects of being dropped on her weeding day.
Both in her own mind and her family, from her 13-year-old sister, and the relaxed father to her mother who is more bothered about what other people think than how her daughter feels.
I really loved the relationship between Annie has with Patrick, throughout the story, from the moment that they meet in the Gym to the time they go on holiday and how their friendship develops throughout the book.
The Lucky Escape can be read in two ways from a light fluffy romance, or as a life affirming story about people not only going for what they want but also realizing what they want out of life. While realizing if you do it this way you are going to hurt yourself and other people, but it will be better for everyone in the long run.
All this Makes The Lucky Escape By Laura Jane Williams, the perfect beach read no matter if you looking to read an escapist romance or a story with more meaning.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy.

"When the day finally comes for Annie to marry Alexander, the last thing she expects is to be left standing at the altar. She was so sure he was Mr Right. Now, she has no idea how she could have got it so wrong."

With the synopsis and the beautiful cover, I thought this would be an enjoyable and nice summer read, but boy was I wrong.
The MC is truly bizarre. Like, I cannot even put into words how much her actions throughout the book are weird and unrealistic. Also, the pace of the book isn't good, and I thought the plot was all over the place, as well as the execution. Simply not for me.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for allowing me to read a copy of this book!

Annie has been left at the alter by her long term boyfriend, Alexander. She is left uncertain and confused, wondering how she managed to get it so wrong.

After a chance meeting with a man from her past, Annie makes a spontaneous decision to take him on her honeymoon. Annie and Patrick spend their trip together in Australia, both committing to moving forward with their lives and leaving their pasts behind. Will they move forward... Together?

Annie and Patrick are my favourite! I loved that they're both struggling with events in their past, albeit very different events. This is a gorgeous story where the characters are battling with the concept of being happy, and not letting age impact their decisions. This book makes you question your decisions in life, and check in with yourself and your well-being.

I did feel as though the first half could have been slightly more condensed, and the second half could have been slowed down and more descriptive. Overall, a fantastic book and I would definitely read more Annie and Patrick in the future!

Annie wakes up on her wedding day, happy to finally marry Alexander after a loooong time of dating and watching her other friends get married and start to have kids. But when she sees her wedding planner standing outside of the church when she arrives, she knows something is wrong. Alexander texted the wedding planner to tell her that he couldn’t go through with the wedding… and then turned off his phone and disappeared to hide from the fallout.

Devastated, Annie is given extra weeks off of work to recuperate and is doted on my her BFF Adzo and her amazing little sister Freddie. Then, her mother-in-law calls to say that her son is a disappointment and that Annie should still take the three-week nonrefundable honeymoon. Annie isn’t sure she wants to go. But when Annie runs into her old theater camp friend, Patrick, at the gym, an instant spark is ignited and Annie remembers the resilient, outgoing person she used to be. Now, Annie has an extra ticket to her un-honeymoon… and you'll have to read to see what happens!

This was a fun read with some great ups and downs in the relationships. I loved the friendships, work relationships, and sister relationship. This was a great summer read!

Annie is having a good day, it is, after all, her wedding day. So why is the wedding planner outside the church? Alexander , the groom, texted the wedding planner to say he wasn't coming. Annie was left at the altar. As she tries to get through the days she joins an exercise class and reconnects with Patrick who she sort of knew at summer camp years before. Patrick convinces Annie that he would be the perfect person to join her on her paid for honeymoon in Australia. Annie discovers things about herself and what she really wants. But is the new Annie the real Annie. A story of love and loss and being the person you really want to be.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an arc for my honest review
