I didn't enjoy The Rosie Effect as much as The Rosie Project. I often found myself annoyed at both Rosie and Dom for their lack of communication but I did enjoy watching Don's new friendships grow and blossom.

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED "The Rosie Project" and was expecting much of the same laugh out loud shenanigans with two of my favorite characters, Don and Rosie. Unfortunately, what I got was a much more serious, depressing view of how a pregnancy changes the dynamics between a couple. I really wanted to like this book, but it just soured me on Don and Rosie. Disappointing :(

Maybe I shouldn't have read this immediately after finishing the first book. It was a little too much Rosie and a lot too much Don. Small doses of both of them is best. Too much is just intolerable. Everything that made Rosie quirky and fun in the first book made her tiresome and impatient in this book. Everything that made Don kind of offbeat but fun made him really impossible and exhausting in this book. It just goes on and on. I barely had the patience to finish.

I made it 70% and then let it sit and I have no desire to pick it back up. Sad, because I really enjoyed the Rosie Project and had high hopes. This just wasn't as good. I'm mostly sad I let myself get so far into it, though!

What an absolute mess of a book. The baby as unifying theme barely made it palatable, Don's quirks seem way over the top and the entire things crazily far fetched. Skip this one and pick up something better...

So...I didn't enjoy this as much as the first one. It felt a little contrived.

NOT happy with how Don was treated by another main character in this book. All of the people that know Don have seemed to have an understanding of his tendencies, and in this book it seemed like they completely forgot how his brain works.

*Small Spoiler, but not really*

I also do not like the deception in the beginning. His wife was WRONG for ehat she did. So wrong. Children are a blessing for many, but what she did was entrapment and deceit.

Finally, CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE CALF BIRTH?!?! SO VERY VERY VERY MANY THINGS WRONG WITH THIS SCENARIO!!!! Not how that would have gone realistically at all.

1. Breech calves need to be assisted immediately. There would have been no waiting.

2. Pulling with chains is often done by hand. Sometimes a calf puller (kind of a winch) is used, but there is no way ANYONE on planet earth would hook the chains to a TRACTOR to deliver. That would rip the calf's legs off and damage the cow irreparable.

3. Calves breaking legs is common, and usually not because of the chains used to deliver. Very often they can be set and wrapped for 6 weeks. They are little and heal fast and there is often not even a tiny trace that they had a broken limb early in life.

I DETEST inaccuracies on topics that require very little research to get correct. You know what? Because of this, I am dropping from 3 stars to 2.

Be nicer to Don!

Less compelling than the first book. I felt like while Don's character grew, Rosie's took a nose dive. It was like the character we fell in love with disappointed us by forgetting why she married Don in the first place. The book is still laced with humorous and sometimes touching situations, but on the whole it fell short of the expectations set by "The Rosie Project."

After reading The Rosie Project I was really excited to read this book. The first thing I noticed is that Don's voice seemed to be different, I kept on but noticed that Rosie didn't have the same draw she did in book one.

Finally at page 106 I gave up, so disappointed after loving The Rosie Project.

Such a likeable outlandish character Don is. I love his adventures in collecting and connecting friends without even realising it. So unprepared yet prepared for fatherhood. I’m surprised Rosie didn’t get him more in this book, I guess she had a lot on her mind. Must hunt down the 3rd book now.
