"Lizzie Pepper's" tell-all about her whirlwind romance and marriage to Hollywood's biggest star may remind readers of the Tom Cruise-Katie Holmes story. And then there's the cultlilke "religion" that seems to control the couple's life. But ultimately this is the story of what happens when "the life that seemed too good to be true was, in fact, too good to be true?" A perfect beach book.

Interestingly, this book has stayed with me much longer than the average beach book. I would probably nudge the rating up to a 3.5 if Goodreads would let me do half points.

I was drawn to this book because it's allegedly a fictionalized account of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise's relationship. I read "The Royal We" (a fictionalized account of Prince William and Princess Kate's courtship and marriage) last year and loved it, so I thought I'd give this a whirl.

There's something kind of "blah" about this book. I don't think the author developed the characters enough. Toward the end I was having a hard time keeping track of certain clues the Katie character had that her relationship with the Tom character was a sham. I think there were some subplots (like the Katie character's relationship with her long-lost sister) that weren't necessary. However, even though toward the end I started getting the feeling that this wasn't the best book, it was still hard to put down.

If you think a book like this would be up your alley, skip this and read "The Royal We" instead.

Not a perfect book, but definitely a fun read.

Fun because it mirrors Tom Kat but found it a little boring.

Delightful nonsense

If you're looking for a quick, distracting read, then this is it. Unless you happen to be a certain actress divorced from a certain actor who is involved in a cult like religion. It might hit a little too close to home for you...

I was not particularly interested in this story when it was happening to Katie Holmes IRL, but this was certainly entertaining, in a terrifying way...

Similar in approach to The Royal We, although I found this fictional take on Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes to be preferable over its William/Kate cousin. Would make a good summer/beach read.

3.5 rounded up to 4. Better than I thought. It was a light, easy read. It kept my attention which is what I needed during this time.

The book got off to slow start but once it picked up I couldn't put it down! All I could think the entire time was- this was definitely about Tom & Katie & it made the story so much more fascinating!
