this was.... honestly pretty awful and i should have 10000% dnfed this long ago. i ended up finishing it out of spite :/
i think a) this author isnt for me and b) i dont enjoy these kinds of romances so much anymore, the ones without a lot of substance. like i thought i wanted something easy and nice but this is kind is unfortunately, for me, the annoying kind. idk, the love interest is just a big alpha asshole and not in the appealing way!!
also i can definitely enjoy an age gap romance but when it's a whole series of older man x younger woman over and over again its like ehhhhh is that necessary. its even more annoying when it gets mentioned every 87 seconds lmaoo. besides, this was so heteronormative it made me roll my eyes a billion times (i love PLENTY of straight romances, that's not what this is about, but the gender roles and behaviors in this.... her decision at the end.... hm....)
anyways yeah i should have dnfed this but i didnt and i'm worse off for it but at least i finished it i guess

An utter bore. Not for me at all. Too much small town family time. I love a protective male lead, but Dex was less alpha with a heart of gold and more temper tantrum guy. Winnie was a decent female lead. Just totally not for me.
Single dad, small town, age gap romance. I mean, that alone should have you RUNNING to pick up this book.
Winnie is our sunshine, witty, and fun 22 yo while Dex is the grumpy, firefighter, single dad who is 34. He is recently divorced and is ex-military (Navy SEAL). He has two little girls (Luna and Hals) who I swore had me cracking up laughing the entire time, they are SO cute! Dex is against love and relationships and Winnie is our hopeless romantic who is so in love with the idea of falling in love that she is currently on a men's detox. Dex and his girls move in next door and the rest is history.
The chemistry between these two had me really struggling to put it down. Dex and Winnie melt my heart. Melanie is easily becoming one of my favorite authors and I love her epic love stories. Onto the next in this series which is about Ellie, Winnie's best friend!

I loved this book, from it's hotness, to it's humor! I couldn't put it down, literally I read it in one sitting. it was wonderful visiting Cloverleigh Farms and seeing a bunch of previous characters. Winnie is so cute and still trying to figure out life and love. Dex is that single father, firefighter and ex-Navy Seal who is a smidge grumpy. Dex and his daughters will win your heart the moment you meet them. An insta attraction and the story of two lonely people not looking for love but finding it right next door!
LISTEN, this is definitely one of those book where you just have to ignore the cringey cover because the story is actually so cute and well-written. Once I finished this book I immediately started the next one, I was hooked by the writing and the characters. Very good!
Honestly just not my favorite trope. It was an okay book.
She fully just rewrote the first book in this series but I don’t hate it so somewhere between three and four stars
Dex was giving "man written by a man" vibes, which made it hard for me to really enjoy this one. I wanted to shake the stupid out of him SO often throughout. Halle, Luna, and Piglet really carried it for me
